Functions Essentially Depending on at Most One Variable

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 2001
Let \(\omega\) be the set of nonnegative integers. The author analyzes the question: When does a function \(f: \omega^d\to\omega\) essentially depend on at most one coordinate? He defines: A function \(f: X^d\to X\) is elementary if its domain can be covered by finitely many rectangles (= sets of the form \(A_0\times\cdots\times A_{d-1}\)) such that ...

Achieving Harmonized and Integrated Long‐Term Environmental Observation of Essential Ecosystem Variables ‐ The eLTER Framework of Standard Observations

open access: yesEarth's Future
The development of harmonized, standardized, and integrated environmental observation systems is a key challenge in Earth system science. Such capability is essential for advancing the interdisciplinary research needed to improve understanding of the ...

The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

From Data to Decision: Leveraging Essential Variables in Standardizing Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Monitoring and Reporting

open access: yesConservation Letters
Fragmented systems for monitoring and assessing biodiversity and ecosystem services limit the ability to track progress at local and national scales in international multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs).

Increased Risk of Sarcomas in Children With Congenital Anomalies: Findings From the Genetic Overlap Between Anomalies and Cancer in Kids (GOBACK) Registry Linkage Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that contribute disproportionately to cancer mortality in children. Although congenital anomalies are among the strongest known risk factors for childhood cancer, the risk of specific sarcoma subtypes among affected individuals has not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Procedure We

Feeding Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs): actual and potential contributions from LTER-Italy [PDF]

open access: yesNature Conservation, 2019
The conceptual framework of Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) aims to capture the major dimensions of biodiversity change by structuring biodiversity monitoring and by ruling data collection amongst different providers.

Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Blood pressure variability in children with essential hypertension [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Human Hypertension, 2007
The aim of this study was to assess blood pressure variability (BPV) and its determinants in untreated hypertensive children. The study group consisted of 124 children, 91 boys and 33 girls, aged 14.9+/-2.5 with essential hypertension and no use of antihypertensive drugs.
