Siege and Conquest. Zooarchaeological Analysis of a Sealed Dump in the Luque Castle (Córdoba, Spain)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, Volume 35, Issue 6, Page 502-513, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT The archaeological excavations undertaken in the Castle of Luque (Córdoba, Spain) in 2007 and 2008 resulted in the identification of a rubbish dump dated to the immediate aftermath of the Castilian conquest (ad 1243), which included material from the previous period of Almohad domination (mid‐12th to mid‐13th centuries).

Natural variation of response to glyphosate in Sinapis alba (Brassicaceae): Physiological effects, shikimate accumulation and genetic mechanisms

open access: yesWeed Research, Volume 65, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
Abstract Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide worldwide, and glyphosate‐resistant weeds have increased globally. Resistance mechanisms, including target‐site resistance (TSR) and non‐target‐site resistance (NTSR), are well documented, but their extent and importance are poorly understood among biotypes. This study examines the natural variation

Effectiveness of protected areas in the Caucasus Mountains in preventing rangeland degradation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract As land use intensifies globally, it increasingly exerts pressure on protected areas. Despite open, nonforested landscapes comprising up to 40% of protected areas globally, assessments have predominately focused on forests, overlooking the major pressures on rangelands from livestock overgrazing and land conversion.

Eco‐Esteem and Depopulation: Broadening the Perspective on the Demographic Challenge in the Rural World*

open access: yesRural Sociology, Volume 90, Issue 1, Page 46-63, March 2025.
Abstract The dynamics of contemporary rural depopulation have been explained and addressed mainly as a result of structural transformations brought about by economic globalization. The influence of cultural/relational aspects has been less present in the scientific literature, where much of the analysis has been concerned with questions such as the ...

Nutritional and Anti‐Nutritional Properties of Extruded Puffed Snack Produced From Pearl Millet and Bambara Groundnut Flour Blends

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2025.
The nutritional and anti‐nutrient profiles of extrudates produced from various combinations of pearl millet and Bambara groundnut was examined. The findings revealed a rising pattern in the content of fiber, moisture, protein, ash and fat as the substitution of Bambara groundnut increased in the extrudate.

Is it all Phacelia pinnatifida? Molecular delimitations and taxonomic revision of Phacelia sect. Glandulosae in South America based on ddRADseq

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 1437-1459, December 2024.
Abstract Phacelia sect. Glandulosae, with ca. 62 taxa, is the most diverse of the 11 sections of the genus Phacelia (Hydrophyllaceae). The family is largely restricted to North and Central America, but the genus Phacelia has an amphitropical distribution with nine species reported from western South America, five of which have been assigned to P. sect.

The latitudinal specialization gradient of bird–malarial parasite networks in South America: lower connectance, but more evenly distributed interactions towards the equator

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2024, Issue 10, October 2024.
Whereas the latitudinal diversity gradient has been shown for a diverse set of taxa, a related macroecological pattern, the latitudinal specialization gradient (LSG), remains controversial. A classical expectation is that species should present more specialized interactions towards the equator, however, recent studies have provided conflicting evidence

Very elevated hCGβ (≥10 multiple of the median) in maternal marker screening for Down syndrome: Frequency, etiologies, outcomes, and guidelines

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 44, Issue 8, Page 959-964, July 2024.
Abstract Aim This aim of this study was to detail maternal and fetal anomalies observed on a national scale in a large French cohort of patients presenting high hCG values (≥10 multiple of the median [MoM]) at Down syndrome screening in order to define clear and optimal guidelines.

Survey of flea infestation in cats and dogs in Western Andalusia, Spain: Seasonality and other risk factors for flea infestation

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 244-251, June 2024.
This work supports the preference of the predominant flea species in pets for seasons with higher temperatures and lower percentages of rainfall. C. felis was the dominant flea species, whereas dogs exhibited a greater diversity of flea species. The number of female fleas was higher than males in all identified species and hosts.
