Re-examination of the estimated average requirement for carbohydrate intake during pregnancy: Addition of placental glucose consumption. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Clin Nutr, 2023
Evidence-based dietary reference intakes for nutrients in healthy individuals were last set in 2005 by the Institute of Medicine. For the first time, these recommendations included a guideline for carbohydrate intake during pregnancy. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) was set at ≥175 g/d or 45%-65% of total energy intake.

Use of population-weighted Estimated Average Requirements as a basis for Daily Values on food labels [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2006
In both Canada and the United States, nutrition labeling is now mandatory for most packaged foods. The labeling is intended to help consumers select foods that can contribute to a healthful diet, but current label values are based on outdated notions of nutrient requirements.

Iron-Fortified Foods Are Needed To Meet the Estimated Average Requirement for Iron in Australian Infants Aged 6 to 12 Months

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2023
Meeting iron intake recommendations is challenging for infants 6-12 mo, especially breastfed infants. Three-quarters of Australian infants 6-12 mo have iron intakes below the estimated average requirement (7 mg), placing them at risk of iron deficiency.

Dietary Protein Requirement of Men >65 Years Old Determined by the Indicator Amino Acid Oxidation Technique Is Higher than the Current Estimated Average Requirement [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2016
The current estimated average requirement (EAR) and RDA for protein of 0.66 and 0.8 g ⋅ kg-1 ⋅ d-1, respectively, for adults, including older men, are based on nitrogen balance data analyzed by monolinear regression. Recent studies in young men and older women that used the indicator amino acid oxidation (IAAO) technique suggest that those values may ...

Assessment of Vitamin B-6 Estimated Average Requirement and Recommended Dietary Allowance for Adolescents Aged 13–15 Years Using Vitamin B-6 Intake, Nutritional Status and Anthropometry [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2003
Because of limited available information, the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) and Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamin B-6 for adolescents were recently estimated by extrapolation from adult values. To determine vitamin B-6 requirements and to provide recommendations for intakes, vitamin B-6 intake, nutritional status and anthropometry ...

Assessment of Vitamin B-6 Status in Young Women Consuming a Controlled Diet Containing Four Levels of Vitamin B-6 Provides an Estimated Average Requirement and Recommended Dietary Allowance [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2001
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamin B-6 for young women was recently reduced from 1.6 to 1.3 mg/d based on an adequate plasma pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) concentration of 20 nmol/L. To assess vitamin B-6 requirements and suggest recommendations for intake, seven healthy young women consumed a controlled diet providing 1.2 g protein/kg body

Determination of Vitamin B-6 Estimated Average Requirement and Recommended Dietary Allowance for Children Aged 7–12 Years Using Vitamin B-6 Intake, Nutritional Status and Anthropometry [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2002
The Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) and Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamin B-6 for children were recently estimated by extrapolating from adult values because of limited available information. To determine vitamin B-6 requirements and provide recommendations for intakes, vitamin B-6 intake, nutritional status and anthropometry of 168 ...
