Qualification status and estimation of breeding value in French trotters

Livestock Production Science, 2004
Abstract The objective of this study was to review the current selection model for French trotters. Data were obtained from the French central registration system for horses—and contained records of performance at the age of 2 through 6 of 183,955 trotters born between 1975 and 1994, and 46,629 of their mothers born after 1966.

Estimation of Breeding Values Using Selected Pedigree Records

Biometrics, 2005
SummaryFish bred in tanks or ponds cannot be easily tagged individually. The parentage of any individual may be determined by DNA fingerprinting, but is sufficiently expensive that large numbers cannot be so fingerprinted. The measurement of the objective trait can be made on a much larger sample relatively cheaply. This article deals with experimental

Estimated breeding values for beef cattle

In Practice, 2004
THE estimated breeding value (EBV) of an animal is a calculation of its genetic worth based on performance records compiled by pedigree breeders, both for the animal itself and its relatives in other herds. For a beef farmer seeking to purchase a new sire, EBVs provide a means of assessing how the bull compares with the current breed average.

Breeding value estimation in the Hungarian Sport Horse population

The Veterinary Journal, 2009
The aims of this study were to estimate phenotypic and genetic parameters for a range of traits in Hungarian Sport Horses, and to compare several methods of estimating breeding value (BV) in this breed. The analyses were based on the Hungarian Sport Horse Studbook, results of self-performance tests (SPTs) and show-jumping competition results.
