[Bayesian methods for genomic breeding value estimation].

Yi chuan = Hereditas, 2014
Estimation of genomic breeding values is the key step in genomic selection. The successful application of genomic selection depends on the accuracy of genomic estimated breeding values, which is mostly determined by the estimation method. Bayes-type and BLUP-type methods are the two main methods which have been widely studied and used.

Estimated breeding values for beef cattle

In Practice, 2004
THE estimated breeding value (EBV) of an animal is a calculation of its genetic worth based on performance records compiled by pedigree breeders, both for the animal itself and its relatives in other herds. For a beef farmer seeking to purchase a new sire, EBVs provide a means of assessing how the bull compares with the current breed average.

Breeding value estimation in the Hungarian Sport Horse population

The Veterinary Journal, 2009
The aims of this study were to estimate phenotypic and genetic parameters for a range of traits in Hungarian Sport Horses, and to compare several methods of estimating breeding value (BV) in this breed. The analyses were based on the Hungarian Sport Horse Studbook, results of self-performance tests (SPTs) and show-jumping competition results.

Qualification status and estimation of breeding value in French trotters

Livestock Production Science, 2004
Abstract The objective of this study was to review the current selection model for French trotters. Data were obtained from the French central registration system for horses—and contained records of performance at the age of 2 through 6 of 183,955 trotters born between 1975 and 1994, and 46,629 of their mothers born after 1966.

Breeding Value Estimate Based on Support Vector Machine

2012 Fifth International Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Design, 2012
Breeding value is the sum of additive effects of all the genes, which has important effect on breeding. Statistical methods are often used traditionally to estimate breeding value. This paper uses support vector regression machine to estimate breeding value, and two feature-selection methods are developed to preprocess the data.

Estimation of breeding values by multitrait Direct Updating

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 1985
SummaryThe Direct Updating method (DU) for estimation of breeding values is extended to cover multiple traits and to include estimation of fixed effects. In DU breeding values of all animals are estimated so that bias due to assortative mating is reduced.

VARIANCE COMPONENT ESTIMATION AND PREDICTION OF BREEDING VALUES

Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology, 1981
A brief review is given of prediction of breeding values when the genetic and phenotypic variances of the trait are known. In many situations, however, these variances are not known and must be estimated from the data. A review is given of the traditionally used analysis of variance (ANOVA) type methods of variance component estimation and of the more ...
