Generalized bootstrap for estimating equations

open access: yes, 2005
We introduce a generalized bootstrap technique for estimators obtained by solving estimating equations. Some special cases of this generalized bootstrap are the classical bootstrap of Efron, the delete-d jackknife and variations of the Bayesian bootstrap.

Risk factors for diarrhea in a cohort of dairy heifer calves reared in individual outdoor hutches in Piraí, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2016
This study aimed to evaluate the association between diarrhea and risk factors potentially related to diarrhea incidence, such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Eimeria and nematode infection, animal age, failure to transfer passive immunity, type of ...

A gradient estimate for the Hermitian Monge-Ampère equation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We improve our previous gradient estimate for the Monge-Amp\`ere equation on a compact Hermitian manifold and give a estimates for the non-mixed second order derivatives. These estimates are required to apply either the Evans-Krylov estimates for second order derivatives or the third derivatives estimates for equations with a gradient term.

Flexible Regularized Estimating Equations: Some New Perspectives [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this note, we make some observations about the equivalences between regularized estimating equations, fixed-point problems and variational inequalities. A summary of our findings is given below: (a) A regularized estimating equation is equivalent to a fixed-point problem, specified by the proximal operator of the corresponding penalty; (b) A ...

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Biomass estimations of invasives Yaupon, Chinese Privet and Chinese Tallow in east Texas Hardwood and Pine Ecosystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Forest understory fuels can have profound effects on fire behavior and crown fire initiation. Accurate fire behavior prediction in understory fuels is an essential component for estimating fire intensity and severity during wildfire and prescribed fire ...

Parameter Estimation Based on Cumulative Kullback–Leibler Divergence

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2021
In this paper, we propose some estimators for the parameters of a statistical model based on Kullback–Leibler divergence of the survival function in continuous setting and apply it to type I censored data.

Uniqueness of weak solutions to the limit resonant equation of 3D rotating Navier-Stokes equations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The limit resonant equation of the 3D rotating Navier-Stokes equations is obtained by taking large rotation limit. This equation has a nonlinear term with restricted interactions between Fourier modes, and thus it enjoys better regularity estimates than those of the classical 3D Navier-Stokes equations.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Factors associated with mortality from tuberculosis in Iran: an application of a generalized estimating equation-based zero-inflated negative binomial model to national registry data [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiology and Health, 2019
OBJECTIVES Tuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem that causes morbidity and mortality in millions of people per year. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of potential risk factors with TB mortality in Iran. METHODS This
