Impact of the estimation equation for GFR on population-based prevalence estimates of kidney dysfunction

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2017
Background Estimating equations are recommended by clinical guidelines as the preferred method for assessment of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The aim of the study was to compare population-based prevalence estimates of decreased kidney function in ...

Factors associated with mortality from tuberculosis in Iran: an application of a generalized estimating equation-based zero-inflated negative binomial model to national registry data [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiology and Health, 2019
OBJECTIVES Tuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem that causes morbidity and mortality in millions of people per year. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of potential risk factors with TB mortality in Iran. METHODS This

Redox‐dependent binding and conformational equilibria govern the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this work, we reveal how different enzyme binding configurations influence the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in live cells using time‐resolved anisotropy imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). Mathematical modelling shows that the redox states of the NAD and NADP pools govern these configurations, shaping their fluorescence ...

Coarse Brownian Dynamics for Nematic Liquid Crystals: Bifurcation Diagrams via Stochastic Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We demonstrate how time-integration of stochastic differential equations (i.e. Brownian dynamics simulations) can be combined with continuum numerical bifurcation analysis techniques to analyze the dynamics of liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs ...

Pathway analysis of rare variants for the clustered phenotypes by using hierarchical structured components analysis

open access: yesBMC Medical Genomics, 2019
Backgrounds Recent large-scale genetic studies often involve clustered phenotypes such as repeated measurements. Compared to a series of univariate analyses of single phenotypes, an analysis of clustered phenotypes can be useful for substantially ...

On the curvature estimates for Hessian equations [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Mathematics, 2019
The curvature estimates of $k$ curvature equations for general right hand side is a longstanding problem. In this paper, we totally solve the $n-1$ case and we also discuss some applications for our estimate.

Development of visible light‐sensitive human neuropsin (OPN5) via single amino acid substitution

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The present study determines a key amino acid residue, Lys91, for defining UV sensitivity of human OPN5. Heterologous action spectroscopy of the wild type and K91 mutants of OPN5 in HEK293T cells reveals that substitution of Lys91 with neutral (alanine) or acidic amino acids (glutamic or aspartic acids) causes substantial shifts in spectral sensitivity

Assessing glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury - true GFR versus urinary creatinine clearance and estimating equations

open access: yesCritical Care, 2013
IntroductionEstimation of kidney function in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury (AKI), is important for appropriate dosing of drugs and adjustment of therapeutic strategies, but challenging due to fluctuations in kidney function, creatinine
