Application of Medical Statistical and Machine Learning Methods in the Age Estimation of Living Individuals [PDF]

open access: yesFayixue Zazhi
In the study of age estimation in living individuals, a lot of data needs to be analyzed by mathematical statistics, and reasonable medical statistical methods play an important role in data design and analysis.

On Weighted Multivariate Sign Functions

open access: yes, 2020
Multivariate sign functions are often used for robust estimation and inference. We propose using data dependent weights in association with such functions.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Sum and Product of Multivariate Fox-H Functions: Exact Analysis for RIS-Assisted System Over Rician Fading With Imperfect CSI

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
Existing performance analysis of wireless systems based on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) over fading channels has primarily focused on providing statistical insights into the sum and product of random variables, typically represented as a ...

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

Shrinkage estimation of non-negative mean vector with unknown covariance under balance loss

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2018
Parameter estimation in multivariate analysis is important, particularly when parameter space is restricted. Among different methods, the shrinkage estimation is of interest.

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Repeated measures discriminant analysis using multivariate generalized estimation equations

open access: yesStatistical Methods in Medical Research, 2021
Discriminant analysis procedures that assume parsimonious covariance and/or means structures have been proposed for distinguishing between two or more populations in multivariate repeated measures designs. However, these procedures rely on the assumptions of multivariate normality which is not tenable in multivariate repeated measures designs which ...

SHrinkage Covariance Estimation Incorporating Prior Biological Knowledge with Applications to High-Dimensional Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In ``-omic data'' analysis, information on the structure of covariates are broadly available either from public databases describing gene regulation processes and functional groups such as the Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG), or from ...
