In the title compound, 17β-hydroxyestra-1,3,5(10)-trien-3-yl benzoate, C 25 H 28 O 3 , the B, C and D rings adopt envelope, chair and envelope conformations, respectively. Both phenyl rings are planar. The structure is internally stabilized by C-H...O hydrogen-bond interactions and is also externally stabilized by one O-H...O and one C-H...O hydrogen ...

Estradiol benzoate for preventing pregnancy in mismated dogs
Theriogenology, 2006We investigated the use of a single treatment of estradiol benzoate (E2B) to prevent pregnancy in mismated dogs, including effects of dose, side effects, and mechanism of action. We used 74 female beagles aged 1-10 year. A single treatment of E2B (0.025, 0.05, 0.10, or 0.20 mg/kg; 10 dogs/dose) given 2 days after mating (5 days after ovulation ...

We previously reported success in inducing early ovulation in seasonally anovulatory mares with a combination of estradiol pretreatment followed by daily administration of a dopamine antagonist (sulpiride). Although every-other-day injections of estradiol benzoate (EB) were effective in that experiment, practical application of this technology would ...

The metabolic fate of estradiol benzoate in female dog
Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1979Abstract The metabolic fate of estradiol benzoate (estradiol 3-benzoate) was studied in intact and biliary fistula dogs. The steroid used was labeled with 3H at position 6 and 7 of the steroid nucleus and with 14C at the carbonyl carbon of the benzoyl group, thus affording the opportunity to ascertain the loss of the benzoyl group and the fate of ...

Contact dermatitis to estradiol benzoate
Contact Dermatitis, 1981Three patients developed facial dermatitis after contact with preparations containing estradiol benzoate. Patch tests were positive to estradiol henzoate 0.1% in MEK but negative to other related estrogens including estradiol. All three patients also had positive tests to resorcinol monobenzoate and two out of three to balsam of Peru. Most likely ...

Estradiol benzoate potentiates neuroactive steroids' effects on pain sensitivity
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1996Progesterone (P), its metabolites, and other neuroactive steroids alter pain thresholds consistent with their efficacies at modulating gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABAA) receptor complexes. We investigated whether estradiol benzoate (EB) potentiates low dosages of neuroactive steroids' effects on pain. Subcutaneous EB (10 micrograms) or sesame oil vehicle

Effect of Estradiol Benzoate on Rat Testis and Adrenal
Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes, 2009The effects of in vivo administration of estradiol benzoate at a dose of 50 micrograms/rat/day for 15 days on testosterone production of testis and adrenal in vitro were investigated in rats. The data revealed that the androgen synthesis of both the steroidogenic organs were reduced by the treatment.

Estradiol benzoate decreases nigral GABAergic activity in male rats
Brain Research, 1985Repeated doses of estradiol benzoate (10 micrograms/kg, s.c., once a day for 2, 5 or 8 days) to male rats decreased gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content and glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) activity in substantia nigra (SN) but failed to change these parameters in hippocampus, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, lateral septum and olfactory tubercle.

A Mouse Model of Hypospadias Induced by Estradiol Benzoate
Cell Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2015We wished to establish a mouse model of hypospadias using injections of estradiol benzoate for investigating the molecular mechanisms of hypospadias. Fifty timed pregnant mice were randomly divided into five study groups: A, B, C, D, and E. These groups were injected subcutaneously with estradiol benzoate mixed with sesame oil at, respectively, the ...
