Gene Flow and Vertical Stratification of Pollination in the Bat-Pollinated Liana <i>Marcgravia longifolia</i>. [PDF]
This study investigates pollen dispersal, vertical stratification of gene flow, and spatial genetic structure in the bat‐pollinated liana Marcgravia longifolia in a western Amazonian forest. Flowers are produced from the forest floor to the canopy, allowing analysis of pollination across strata.

Our findings suggest a continuous shift in the frugivore community composition along the vertical gradient of a plant species fruiting across forest strata, from a few generalized frugivores in the understorey to a diverse set of specialized frugivores in the canopy.

In surgical patients, endothelial dysfunction is an early indicator differentiating sepsis from simple infection, whereas neutrophil degranulation is an early indicator differentiating septic shock from sepsis.
