Canalized to heat, plastic to cold: adaptive coordination of leaf and seed strategies in populations spanning an elevational gradient

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 2, Page 873-884, April 2026.
Summary In tropical mountains, surviving temperature extremes demands finely tuned strategies. We investigated how populations of the bromeliad Pitcairnia flammea across a 2200 m elevational gradient balance genetic canalization and plasticity, and whether thermal strategies are coordinated between seeds and leaves.

Amphibians' Expansion to Record Elevations Influences Chytrid (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) Infection Dynamics

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Peruvian frogs underwent a climate‐driven range expansion into deglaciating mountains, exposing themselves and their fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) to challenging new thermal environments. Bd has dispersed extensively in these new habitats, and elevation may mediate the apparent sublethal impacts of infection for frogs.

Estructura genética de poblaciones de Eriocaulon bilobatum (Eriocaulaceae): una especie amenazada de humedades temporales

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2009
Eriocaulon bilobatum es una especie acuática que vive en humedales temporales del centro de México. Es una herbácea anual, enraizada emergente, con reproducción sexual y asexual, monoica y polinizada por insectos.

Fine‐tuning the buzz: comparing visitation frequency and pollination effectiveness in plant–pollinator networks

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 2140-2152, February 2026.
Summary Ecological network approaches have advanced our understanding of how species interactions influence community and evolutionary dynamics. However, a key limitation is that most network analyses rely solely on visitation data, often overlooking functional aspects of interactions.

The frequency and importance of polyploidy in tropical rainforest tree radiations

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 2103-2114, February 2026.
Summary The presence of more than two copies of the genome in an organism, termed ‘polyploidy’, is a crucial force in plant evolution, generating genetic, phenotypic and ecological diversity. [Correction added on 22 January 2026, after first online publication: the preceding sentence has been corrected.] The Amazonian tree flora is the most species ...

Variation in responses to temperature in admixed Populus genotypes predicts geographic shifts in regions where hybrids are favored

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1509-1526, February 2026.
Summary Plastic responses of plants to their environment vary as a result of genetic differentiation within and among species. To accurately predict rangewide responses to climate change, it is necessary to characterize genotype‐specific reaction norms across the continuum of historic and future climate conditions comprising a species' range. Heat drastically alters floral color and pigment composition without affecting flower conspicuousness

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Premise Floral pigments primarily serve to attract pollinators through color display and also contribute to protection against environmental stress. Although pigment composition can be plastically altered under stress, its impact on pollinator color perception remains poorly understood.
