Selecting Female Mice in Estrus and Checking Plugs.

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2016
The female mouse estrous cycle is divided into four phases: proestrus (development of ovarian follicles), estrus (ovulation), metestrus (formation of corpora lutea), and diestrus (beginning of follicle development for next ovulation and elimination of ...

Induction of estrus by electrical stimulation

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1959
Using the apparatus designed for the electroejaculation of bulls, the reproductive organs of anestrous cows were electrically stimulated through the rectal wall. Forty-three per cent of the cows which had been in anestrus for 50 or more days after calving came in heat within 7 days after an electrical stimulation as compared to 13% of the controls ...

Synchronization of estrus and fertility in Zebu beef heifers treated with three estrus synchronization protocols

Theriogenology, 1999
The effects on estrus and fertility of 3 estrus synchronization protocols were studied in Brahman beef heifers. In Treatment 1 (PGF protocol; n=234), heifers received 7.5 mg, i.m. prostianol on Day 0 and were inseminated after observed estrus until Day 5. Treatment 2 (10-d NOR protocol; n = 220) consisted of norgestomet (NOR; 3 mg, s.c.

Estrus characterization in superovulated cattle

Theriogenology, 1993
Abstract Based on frequent examinations per rectum and on external signs of estrus, the intensity of estrus was characterized in 107 superovulated dairy cows and heifers. Three intensity groups were defined: strong (n=57), moderate (n=34), and weak (n=16). Frequent blood samples were obtained for analyses of estradiol-17β and LH.

Seasonal effects on behavioral estrus signs and estrus detection efficiency in Holstein heifers

Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2016
In the study, 234 Holstein heifers were observed visually during a one-year period and 1622 estrus records were used to determine seasonal effects on behavioral estrus signs and estrus detection efficiency. Estrus records were classified as standing, mounting, vaginal mucus discharging, and the other estrus signs.

Influence of estrus at fixed-time artificial insemination on early embryonic development in beef cattle.

Journal of Animal Science, 2015
It has been repeatedly demonstrated that estrous expression before fixed-time AI (TAI) results in increased pregnancy success. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to determine if preblastocyst embryonic developmental characteristics differed ...

Estrus Detection in Cattle

Proper detection of estrus is critical in dairy husbandry. Loss of profit due to extended calving intervals, milk loss, and veterinary costs are related to incorrect detection of estrus. Despite enormous progress in the knowledge of reproductive physiology and the development of estrous detection aids, detection of estrus remains a major problem.

Detection of estrus by visual observation and radiotelemetry in peripubertal, estrus-synchronized beef heifers.

Journal of Animal Science, 1996
The effectiveness of two estrus-detection methods (visual observation and radiotelemetric, pressure-sensitive, rump-mounted devices) was compared in peripubertal, crossbred yearling beef heifers. Heifers (n = 50) were fitted with a pressure-sensitive device affixed to their rumps to which a battery-operated radio transmitter was connected.

Synchronization of estrus in goats: The relationship between time of occurrence of estrus and fertility following artificial insemination

Theriogenology, 1993
The fertility rate for goats following artificial insemination (AI) is usually analyzed according to herd or treatment groups. However, these general information are insufficient to allow identification of specific factors which affect this individual reproductive performance.

Induction and synchronization of estrus in dogs

Theriogenology, 2005
Indications for estrus induction in the bitch include missed breeding opportunities or conception failure, the treatment of primary or secondary anestrus and synchronization of ovulation for embryo transfer programs. Reported methods for canine estrus induction include the use of synthetic estrogens (diethylstilbesterol), dopamine agonists ...
