Liquid-Phase Dehydration of Aqueous Ethanol-Gasoline Mixtures
Science, 1980Two-phase mixtures of gasoline, water, and ethanol were dehydrated with both starch and saponified starch- g -polyacrylonitrile (HSPAN). Whereas starch absorbed ethanol as well as water, HSPAN selectively absorbed the water component, allowing ethanol to dissolve in the gasoline phase.

Dehydration of Ethanol by Facile Synthesized Glucose-Based Silica
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2013Bioethanol is considered a potential liquid fuel that can be produced from biomass by fermentation and distillation. Although most of the water is removed by distillation, the purity of ethanol is limited to 95-96 % due to the formation of a low-boiling point, water-ethanol azeotrope.

Bio-ethanol dehydration to liquid hydrocarbons
Benzene (B), toluene (T), and xylenes (X) are important raw materials for petrochemical industry. These aromatics are normally produced by the catalytic reforming, pyrolysis gasoline, and coal that require petroleum as the raw material. Nowadays, the catalytic transformation of renewable sources, such as bio-ethanol, is an interesting process for ...openaire +1 more source
Kinetics of the catalytic dehydration of ethanol over alumina
Journal of the Chemical Society B: Physical Organic, 1968The kinetics of the vapour-phase catalytic dehydration of ethanol over alumina have been studied in a static system in the temperature range which favours the formation of ethylene and water. The first-order rate constant, k, for the reaction is given by k= 3 × 108 exp –26,600/RT sec.–1 for surface coverages, θ, up to 0·8 At catalytic temperatures in ...

Optimisation of distillation and pervaporation system for ethanol dehydration
2000Ethanol dehydration systems consisting of a distillation column and pervaporation modules are rigorously modelled and optimised using MINLP. The optimal design and operating parameters including number of trays, feed location, reflux ratio, number of membrane sections in series and the number of membrane modules in each section are determined. A method
