Oxidative and Non-Oxidative Metabolomics of Ethanol [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Drug Metabolism, 2016
It is well known that ethanol can cause significant morbidity and mortality, and much of the related toxic effects can be explained by its metabolic profile. This work performs a complete review of the metabolism of ethanol focusing on both major and minor metabolites. An exhaustive literature search was carried out using textual and structural queries ...

Ethanol toxicity and oxidative stress [PDF]

open access: yesToxicology Letters, 1992
The mechanisms underlying the toxicity of ethanol have been the subject of much study, but are not well understood. Unlike many selective pharmacological agents, ethanol clearly has several major loci of action. One deleterious factor in ethanol metabolism is the potential for generation of excess amounts of free radicals.

Sustainable bioethanol production combining biorefinery principles using combined raw materials from wheat undersown with clover-grass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
To obtain the best possible net energy balance of the bioethanol production the biomass raw materials used need to be produced with limited use of non-renewable fossil fuels.

New Approaches for the Ethanol Oxidation Reaction of Pt/C on Carbon Cloth Using ATR-FTIR

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
This work describes the study of the ethanol oxidation reaction of a Pt/C Etek electrocatalyst that was supported on different substrates, such as gold, glassy carbon and carbon cloth treated with PTFE.

Enhanced Electrocatalytic Activity of Pt-M (M= Co, Fe) Chitosan Supported Catalysts for Ethanol Electrooxidation in Fuel Cells [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanostructures, 2017
Here, metal nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction of the corresponding metal salts in the presence of chitosan polymer. Binary and ternary metallic-chitosan Pt-Fe-CH, Pt-Co-CH and Pt-Fe-Co-CH nanocomposites were prepared.

Two-parameter determination in vinegar by a flow injection-pervaporation system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A flow-injection method (FI) for the sequential determination of ethanol and acetic acid in vinegar is reported. The determination of ethanol is based on the oxidation of the pervaporated ethanol by Cr2O7K2.

Oxidant anti-oxidant imbalance and effects of ethanol [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 1999
This article discusses some of the mechanisms through which alcohol, delivered pre- or postnatally, alters the activity of the rodent hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. We show that blockade of prostaglandin synthesis, but not opiate receptors, modestly interfered with the HPA axis to acute alcohol injection.

Development of Au Promoted Pd/C Electrocatalysts for Methanol, Ethanol and Isopropanol Oxidation in Alkaline Medium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
This research is aimed to investigate the Pt-free catalysts for alcohol electrooxidation in alkaline media. The results show that Pd is a good electrocatalyst for ethanol and isopropanol oxidation. The E-TEK Pt/C shows a much higher activity for methanol

Biotechnological aspects of sulfate reduction with methane as electron donor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Biological sulfate reduction can be used for the removal and recovery of oxidized sulfur compounds and metals from waste streams. However, the costs of conventional electron donors, like hydrogen and ethanol, limit the application possibilities.

Carbon nanotube modified glassy carbon electrode for electrochemical oxidation of alkylphenol ethoxylate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Electrochemical oxidation of an emerging pollutant, 2-(4-methylphenoxy)ethanol (MPET), from water has been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV). Multiwall carbon nanotubes glassy carbon electrodes (MWCNT-GCE) were used as working electrode due to their ...
