Inhibition of yeast sporulation by ethidium bromide

Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 1978
Ethidium bromide blocks ascus formation in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This may mean that the presence of the mitochondrial genome is required for sporulation in this organism.

Comparison of the Effects of Ethidium Bromide and of Ethidium Bromide-deoxyribonucleic Acid Complex in Fibroblasts Cultivated in vitro

open access: yesBeiträge zur Pathologie, 1976
Chick embryo fibroblasts cultivated in vitro were treated with ethidium bromide (E.B.) or with DNA-E.B. complex (DNA-E.B.). E.B. (5 mug/ml) provokes morphological alterations and cell death, inhibits DNA synthesis and mitotic activity. DNA-E.B. (E.B. 5 mug/ml) is less toxic to the fibroblasts as far as cell structure, DNA synthesis and mitotic activity

Interaction of Ethidium Bromide with Heparin

International Journal of Radiation Biology and Related Studies in Physics, Chemistry and Medicine, 1975
The reactions of hydrated electrons produced during pulse radiolysis have been utilized to investigate the binding of ethidium bromide to heparin. Complexes of ethidium bromide and heparin can be dissociated with salt. Divalent cations are more effective than monovalent cations in this respect.

Study of the interaction between 10-hydroxycamptothecine and DNA with the use of ethidium bromide dye as a fluorescence probe

open access: yesSensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2011
The interaction of 10-hydroxycamptothecine (HCPT) with DNA under pseudo-physiological conditions (Tris-HCl buffer of pH 7.4), using ethidium bromide (EB) dye as a probe, was investigated with the use of spectrofluorimetry, UV-vis spectrometry and ...

A synthesis of labeled ethidium bromide

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1974
Abstract A method is described for the synthesis of labeled ethidium (3,8-diamino-5-ethyl-6-phenyl phenanthridinium) bromide. Based on benzoic acid, the radioactive precursor used, the yield is 15% of a compound that is indistinguishable from authentic ethidium bromide in its absorption spectra (uv, visible, ir), Chromatographie behavior, and ...
