Interaction of Ethidium Bromide with Heparin

International Journal of Radiation Biology and Related Studies in Physics, Chemistry and Medicine, 1975
The reactions of hydrated electrons produced during pulse radiolysis have been utilized to investigate the binding of ethidium bromide to heparin. Complexes of ethidium bromide and heparin can be dissociated with salt. Divalent cations are more effective than monovalent cations in this respect.

A synthesis of labeled ethidium bromide

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1974
Abstract A method is described for the synthesis of labeled ethidium (3,8-diamino-5-ethyl-6-phenyl phenanthridinium) bromide. Based on benzoic acid, the radioactive precursor used, the yield is 15% of a compound that is indistinguishable from authentic ethidium bromide in its absorption spectra (uv, visible, ir), Chromatographie behavior, and ...

Metabolism of ethidium bromide in rats.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1981
The biliary excretion products recovered after iv administration of ethidium bromide to rats were found to consist of: unchanged drug, 8-acetylethidium, and an 8-acetylated hydroxylated metabolite. Proofs of structure were obtained by field desorption mass spectroscopy and 1H NMR, which indicated that the latter metabolite is probably substituted at ...

Mitochondrial membranes and mutagenesis by ethidium bromide

Journal of Supramolecular Structure, 1972
AbstractThe conversion of wild type (ρ+) to cytoplasmic petites (ρ−) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, à mutation in mitochondrial DNA, can be brought about with high efficiency by low concentrations of ethidium bromide (EB). The rate and extent of mutagenesis and its expression can be influenced, and even reversed, by a number of genetic lesions, agents or
