The invention relates to a method for producing a catalyst containing iron oxide, potassium oxide, a magnesium compound and a cerium compound and is characterised in that said catalyst has one or more Fe/K phases K2OFe2O3 1:n, with a natural number n of a to 11. The invention also relates to methods for dehydrogenating ethyl benzene to produce styrene.
