Absence of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) production in ethanol-fed Lucilia sericata (Diptera: Calliphoridae) larvae: a pilot study for forensic applications

open access: yesLegal Medicine
Forensic entomotoxicology explores the role of necrophagous insects in toxicological investigations, particularly in cases where traditional samples are unavailable or compromised. This study investigates the ability of Lucilia sericata larvae to absorb ethanol and produce ethyl glucuronide (EtG) after feeding on ethanol-containing substrates.

Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) Derivatization With N‐(3‐Dimethylaminopropyl)‐N′‐Ethylcarbodiimide (EDC). LC‐HRAM‐Orbitrap‐MS Characterization of Derivatives and Application to Blood, Urine, and Hair Analysis

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry
ABSTRACT Rationale This study presents a novel LC‐MS approach for the determination of ethyl glucuronide (EtG), an important alcohol biomarker, in biosamples following derivatization with N‐(3‐dimethylaminopropyl)‐N′‐ethylcarbodiimide (EDC).

Utility of Commercial Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) and Ethyl Sulfate (EtS) Testing for Detection of Lighter Drinking Among Women of Childbearing Years

Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, 2017
Even moderate alcohol consumption during pregnancy can pose risks to the fetus, making reliable and consistent detection of drinking in pregnancy critical. Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) have shown some ability to detect lower levels of drinking, but the sensitivity of commercial EtG/EtS testing to lower levels of drinking among women ...

An evaluation of the DRI‐ETG EIA method for the determination of ethyl glucuronide concentrations in clinical and post‐mortem urine

Drug Testing and Analysis, 2012
A commercial enzyme immunoassay for the qualitative and semi‐quantitative measurement of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in urine was evaluated. Post‐mortem (n=800), and clinical urine (n=200) samples were assayed using a Hitachi 902 analyzer. The determined concentrations were compared with those obtained using a previously published liquid chromatography ...

Sonochemically Synthesized Zinc Oxide Nanoflakes Based Electrochemical Immunosensor for Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) Detection

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2017
We report on label free highly sensitive electrochemical immunosensor for monitoring alcohol consumption through the detection and quantification of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) -a metabolite of ethanol-based on two-dimensional (2D) zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflakes (NFs), which were synthesized on flexible Au-coated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate ...

Detecting alcohol abuse: traditional blood alcohol markers compared to ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) measurement in hair

Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2013
Alcohol abuse is a common problem in society; however, the technical capabilities of evaluating individual alcohol consumption using objective biomarkers are rather limited at present. In recent years research has focused on alcohol markers using hair analysis but data on performance and reliable cut-off values are still lacking.

Determination of Fatty Acid Ethyl Esters (FAEE) and Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) in Hair: A Promising Way for Retrospective Detection of Alcohol Abuse During Pregnancy?

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 2008
The retrospective detection of alcohol consumption during pregnancy is an important part of the diagnosis of the fetal alcohol syndrome. A promising way to solve this problem can be the determination of fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEE) or/and ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in hair of the mothers.

Development of a new immunoassay for the detection of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in meconium: validation with authentic specimens analyzed using LC-MS/MS. Preliminary results

Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), 2014
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) measurement in neonatal meconium has emerged as a reliable marker to objectively assess prenatal exposure to maternal ethanol complementary to fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEEs) measurement. The detection of EtG in meconium is currently a lengthy, difficult and expensive process using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry ...

Urine ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulphate (EtS) concentrations the day after heavy alcohol consumption

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 2016
Purpose: It has been suggested that ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulphate (EtS) are suitable biomarkers of the alcohol hangover state. Aim of the study was to investigate EtG and EtS concentrations in urine after an evening of heavy alcohol consumption.
