Organocatalyzed Synthesis of Aliphatic Polyesters from Ethylene Brassylate: A Cheap and Renewable Macrolactone

ACS Macro Letters, 2014
The use of organocatalysts for the polymerization of ethylene brassylate, a commercially available, cheap, and renewable macro(di)lactone is reported for the first time. Ethylene brassylate was polymerized by ring-opening polymerization under bulk and solution conditions at 80 °C.

Copolymerization of ethylene brassylate with δ-valerolactone towards isodimorphic random copolyesters with continuously tunable mechanical properties

European Polymer Journal, 2018
Abstract Ring opening copolymerization of ethylene brassylate (EB) and δ-valerolactone (δ-VL) with various feeding ratios catalyzed by triphenyl bismuth was performed to prepare poly(ethylene brassylate-co-δ-valerolactone) copolyesters. The reactivity ratios of EB and δ-VL were firstly determined to be r EB = 0.64 and r VL = 2 ...

Synthesis, microstructure and mechanical properties of partially biobased biodegradable poly(ethylene brassylate-co-ε-caprolactone) copolyesters

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2019
High-molecular-weight poly(ethylene brassylate-co-ε-caprolactone) copolyesters within a wide composition range were prepared via triphenyl bismuth catalyzed copolymerization of ethylene brassylate (EB) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) in bulk. Microstructural analysis of the resulting copolyesters demonstrated that the comonomer units were completely random ...

Synthesis and self-assembly of four-armed star copolymer based on poly(ethylene brassylate) hydrophobic block as potential drug carries

Journal of Nanoparticle Research, 2016
A novel well-defined four-armed star poly(ethylene brassylate)-b-poly(poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate) (s-PEB-b-P(PEGMA)) was synthesized and self-assembled via the combination of ring-opening polymerization and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) in this work. It proceeded firstly with the synthesis of

Preparation and evaluation of surface‐active brassylic acid‐ethylene oxide adducts

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1968
AbstractBoth liquid and solid surface‐active adducts of brassylic (tridecanedioic) acid were prepared by potassium hydroxide‐catalyzed addition of ethylene oxide gas to the molten acid. The number‐average molecular weights of the adducts ranged from 500 to 3,000.

Sustainable pathways for poly(ethylene brassylate) synthesis

Revue Roumaine de Chimie
Ethylene brassylate (EB) is a renewable macrolactone that can be polymerized via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) to obtain a fully biosourced biodegradable polyester. In this work, a novel synthesis of poly(ethylene brassylate) (PEB) in a homogeneous 1,4-dioxane system at 105 °C is disclosed.
