THE occasional occurrence of ethylene oxide explosions during the fumigation of dried fruit has led us to undertake a detailed study of the combustion characteristics of the vapour. An examination of the effect of pressure on the spontaneous ignition temperatures has yielded results somewhat like those for acetaldehyde1,2.. Cool flames can be initiated

Residual Ethylene Oxide and Ethylene Glycol in Ethylene Oxide Sterilized Pharmaceuticals
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1965The development and application of two methods for the determination of sterilization residues in ethylene oxide sterilized steroids, vitamins, and antibiotics are described. One method is based on the separation and concentration of ethylene oxide (ETO) by distillation and measurement by internal standard gas liquid chromatography.

To the Editor.— Several cases are presented in which contact dermatitis occurred secondary to prepackaged wound dressing material containing excessive quantities of ethylene oxide used during sterilization. Ethylene oxide is a colorless gas widely used for sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.

SKELETAL SILVER CATALYSTS FOR THE OXIDATION OF ETHYLENE TO ETHYLENE OXIDE
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1956Skeletal silver catalysts of high specific activity have been prepared by the removal of calcium from calcium–silver alloys. The activity of these catalysts in the oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide has been investigated. Catalysts prepared by the removal of the other alkaline earth metals from their alloys with silver have also been studied.

THE CHEMISTRY OF ETHYLENE OXIDE: I. AN ANALYSIS FOR ETHYLENE OXIDE
Canadian Journal of Research, 1950Accurate and convenient analyses for ethylene oxide can be obtained using 1% periodic acid in dilute perchloric acid as reagent. The time required is less than an hour and the precision is about 0.1–0.2%.

A Study of the Oxidation of Ethylene to Ethylene Oxide on a Silver Catalyst
Australian Journal of Scientific Research Series A: Physical Sciences, 1950A study has been made of the direct oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide in a flowing system under the catalytic action of silver. Various catalysts were prepared and one containing 10 per cent. barium carbonate, having a high and sustained activity, was selected for a detailed examination of the influence of reaction conditions on the yield of ...
