Novelty for the flora of Espírito Santo, Brazil: a new species of Ouratea Aubl. (Ochnaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Here, we describe and illustrate the new species Ouratea oberdanii Fraga & Deccache, which is named after Dr Oberdan José Pereira. This new species is found in the mountainous regions of the evergreen Atlantic Forest in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. Ouratea oberdanii is similar to O. linearis (A.Gray) Sastre & Offroy and O.

Habitat‐based spatial patterns enable realistic reconstruction of plant spatial arrangements across complex landscapes

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Spatially explicit individual‐based models provide a powerful way to explore spatial dynamics when direct observation is not feasible. But for many ecological applications, these models require detailed data on the initial spatial arrangement and traits of individuals – information rarely available in large, heterogeneous or novel landscapes.

Advances in mass clonal propagation of Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis in Congo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008

Understanding smallholder decision‐making to increase farm tree diversity: Enablers and barriers for forest landscape restoration in Western Kenya

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Integrating diverse trees and shrubs (hereafter ‘trees’) in agricultural landscapes has emerged as a crucial nature‐based solution to the triple challenge of biodiversity loss, climate change and food security. The potential benefits of on‐farm trees for both people and nature, however, are often constrained by inadequate consideration of ...

‘Should’ and ‘can’ active restoration be used in biodiversity offsets? Stakeholder perspectives from New South Wales, Australia

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite their controversial nature, biodiversity offsets are often used as a regulatory tool to counterbalance the impacts of land clearing on biodiversity. Offsets usually aim to achieve no net loss (NNL) of biodiversity through protection and/or restoration of habitat.

Dinâmica populacional do psilídeo-de-concha Glycaspis brimblecombei (Moore, 1964) (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) e de seu parasitóide Psyllaephagus bliteus (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) em floresta de Eucalyptus camaldulensis Population dinamics of red gum lerp psyllid, Glycaspis brimblecombei (Moore, 1964) (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) and its parasitoid, Psyllaephagus bliteus (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), in Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantation

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2008
O psilídeo-de-concha, Glycaspis brimblecombei, é uma praga exótica específica de Eucalyptus, que causa desfolha, secamento de ponteiros e ramos, podendo levar as árvores à morte.

On the importance of including vegetation dynamics in Budyko's hydrological model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Budyko curve describes the patterns observed between between climate, evapotranspiration and run-off and has proven to be a useful model for predicting catchment energy and water balances.

Why do we burn? Examining arguments underpinning the use of prescribed burning to manage wildfire risk

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Managing wildfire risk requires consideration of complex and uncertain scientific evidence as well as trade‐offs between different values and goals. Conflicting perspectives on what values and goals are most important, what ought to be done and what trade‐offs are acceptable complicate those decisions.

Manejo hídrico em viveiro e uso de hidrogel na sobrevivência pós-plantio de Eucalyptus urograndis em dois solos diferentes Water management in nursery and hydrogel utilization in survival of Eucalyptus urograndis in two different soils
