The effect of eugenol on nerve transmission
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1977Because of its long-time use as a sedative or anodyne in dental procedures, eugenol was studied to determine its effect on evoked nerve impulse transmission. The sciatic nerve of the bullfrog was stimulated in a nerve chamber, and the compound action potential was visualized on and recorded from an oscilloscope screen.

Journal of Dental Research, 1978The chelating power of the orthomethoxy phenolic (guaiacyl) group is fundamental to the accepted setting reaction of the metal oxide/eugenol cements. In this report, the chelating power is quantitatively described by the sequence of β2 for the chelates of the relevant metal ions.
