The influence of the environment on the diversity of Euglena species and their abundance in the lagoon of Nador-Morocco [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The main objective of this work is to study the spatial and temporal evolution and distribution of Euglena species in the Nador lagoon. The study is based on four sampling stations and covers two specific seasons, namely spring and summer 2018.

Carotenoids Biosynthesis, Accumulation, and Applications of a Model Microalga Euglenagracilis

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2022
The carotenoids, including lycopene, lutein, astaxanthin, and zeaxanthin belong to the isoprenoids, whose basic structure is made up of eight isoprene units, resulting in a C40 backbone, though some of them are only trace components in Euglena.

Euglena gracilis Promotes Lactobacillus Growth and Antioxidants Accumulation as a Potential Next-Generation Prebiotic

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
Euglena gracilis, a single-celled microalga with various trophic growth styles under different cultivation conditions, contains nutrients, such as ß-1,3-glucans, essential amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Barriers Impeding Active Mixing of Swimming Microbes in a Hyperbolic Flow

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
We present experiments on the motion of swimming microbes in a laminar, hyperbolic flow. We test a theory that predicts the existence of swimming invariant manifolds (SwIMs) that act as invisible, one-way barriers that block the motion of the microbes ...

The Mitochondrion of Euglena gracilis

open access: yes, 2017
In the presence of oxygen, Euglena gracilis mitochondria function much like mammalian mitochondria. Under anaerobiosis, E. gracilis mitochondria perform a malonyl-CoA independent synthesis of fatty acids leading to accumulation of wax esters, which serve as the sink for electrons stemming from glycolytic ATP synthesis and pyruvate oxidation.

Identification, cloning, and characterization of microsatellite DNA in Euglena gracilis

open access: yes, 2005
Microsatellite DNA has been developed into one of the most popular genetic markers. We have identified and cloned microsatellite loci in the genome of a free-living protozoan Euglena gracilis FACHB-848, using the random amplified microsatellites method ...

The dialogue between protozoa and bacteria in a microfluidic device.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
In nature, protozoa play a major role in controlling bacterial populations. This paper proposes a microfluidic device for the study of protozoa behaviors change due to their chemotactic response in the presence of bacterial cells.

Effect of Various Photoperiodic Conditions and Zn2+ Concentrations on Growth Rate and Metabolite Content in Euglena sp

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Life Science
The application of Euglena as a carbon capture organism has generated considerable interest among scientists. Through the photosynthesis process, many kinds of metabolites are produced by Euglena, such as lipids, proteins, and pigments.
