Studies on polyamine biosynthesis in Euglena gracilis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1979Euglene gracilis (strain Z) was found to contain five polyamines which could be separated by high-pressure cation-exchange chromatography. 1,3-Diaminopropane, putrescine, norspermidine (N-(3-aminopropyl)-1,3-diaminopropane), spermidine and norspermine (N,N'-bis(aminopropyl)-1,3-diaminopropane) were identified. Biosynthesis of putrescine in E.

Euglena Gracilis Case: A Real Biosensor
2003For over 100 years, a major object of photobiological studies has been the unicellular flagellate, Euglena gracilis, an organism well suited for such investigations by its special complement of organelles that may be considered an ancient, yet complete “visual” system.

The carotenoids of the flagellated alga, Euglena gracilis
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 19601. 1. The carotenoids of Euglena gracilis strain Z and Euglena gracilis var. bacillaris have been separated by adsorption chromatography and further characterized by their absorption spectra and behavior on partitioning between petroleum ether and aqueous methanol.

Fully Deuterated Euglena gracilis
Science, 1964Euglena gracilis has been grown in 99.4 percent D 2 O on fully deuterated substrates. It is the first organism with distinct animal characteristics in which at least 99 percent of the hydrogen normally present has been replaced by deuterium.

Phosphatidyl choline species in Euglena gracilis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1972Abstract 1. 1. The fatty acid composition of the phosphatidyl cholines and the phosphatidyl ethanolamines from cultures of Euglena gracilis grown in the light was determined and compared to that obtained from cultures grown in the dark. 2. 2.

Uptake and incorporation of pyrimidines in Euglena gracilis
Archives of Microbiology, 1976In photoorganotrophically grown cells of Euglena gracilis the uptake and incorporation degree of 12 different pyrimidines were tested. The rate of uptake of pyrimidines has distinct maxima in the late log phase and in the stationary phase of cell multiplication.

Maturation of chloroplast rRNA in Euglena gracilis
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1974Summary The incorporation of radioactive phosphorus into RNA of greening Euglena labels 21 S and 25 S cytoplasmic rRNA, 16 S and 23 S chloroplast rRNA (0.55 and 1.1 × 10 6 dalton), and two minor “p 16” and “p 23” chloroplast species, slightly larger than 16 S and 23 S RNA (0.62 and 1.2 × 10 6 dalton).
