First record of Eulaema helvola Moure (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Euglossina) for the State of Minas Gerais: biogeographic and taxonomic implications [PDF]

The occurrence of Eulaema helvola Moure in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, is reported for the first time, extending its known geographic distribution in ca. 600 km eastwards and suggesting that this species may be parapatric or sympatric with E. seabrai Moure. Taxonomic and biogeographic implications of this finding are discussed.

Gynandromorphy in Eulaema atleticana Nemésio (Apidae, Euglossini)

A gynandromorph specimen of Eulaema atleticana Nemésio, the first registered in Eulaema, is described. The E. atleticana gynandromorph was captured using an eucalyptol scent trap, in the Mata do Buraquinho Reserve, an Atlantic Forest fragment.

Euglossinae bees of two areas of Terra Firme forest, near Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil were studied. During one year the collections were done fortnightly, using traps with eight kinds of scent baits. The traps were placed in the understory and in tree crowns. Some species showed a very clear vertical stratification in the forest.
