Beyond the Tail: Taming Bias in Burr XII Residual Entropy Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Accurately predicting system lifetime is routine in reliability and survival analysis, but quantifying uncertainty in residual life is rarely addressed despite being often more critical. Residual entropy fills this gap by measuring unpredictability in remaining lifetime.

Employing the Inverse Weibull Failure Time Model to Estimate Some of the Reliability Metrics of k‐Out‐of‐n Systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This paper presents a new approach to determine the mean time to system failure (MTSF) and reliability function of k‐out‐of‐n systems with independent and identically distributed components following the inverse Weibull (IW) distribution. The system remains operational when at least k of its n components function properly.

Sharp bounds for gamma and digamma function arising from Burnside's formula

open access: yesJournal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory, 2010
The main aim of this paper is to improve the Burnside's formula for approximating the factorial function. We prove the complete monotonicity of a function involving the gamma function to establish new lower and upper sharp bounds for the gamma and ...

Certain Mathematical Constants Associated with Harmonic Numbers and Higher-Dimensional Harmonic Sums

open access: yesMathematics
The Euler–Mascheroni constant γ, defined as the limiting difference between the harmonic numbers Hn and logn, has long been studied and appears in diverse areas of number theory, analysis, and special functions.

Monotonic nature of the Gamma function

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications
This study begins by examining the monotonic behavior of the function ln Γ ( x + 1 ) / ( ln ( x 2 + 6 ) − ln ( x + 6 ) ) $\ln \Gamma (x+1)/\left (\ln \left (x^{2}+6\right )-\ln (x+6)\right )$ on the interval x ∈ ( − 1 , 1 ) $x\in (-1,1)$ , supported by ...

An In-Depth Investigation of the Riemann Zeta Function Using Infinite Numbers

open access: yesMathematics
This study focuses on an in-depth investigation of the Riemann zeta function. For this purpose, infinite numbers and rotational infinite numbers, which have been introduced in previous studies published by the author, are used.

The Weibull–Odd Perks Distribution: Statistical Theory, Regression Modeling, and Applications

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics
We introduce the Weibull–Odd Perks distribution (WOPD), a three-parameter lifetime model obtained by composing the odds function of the Perks distribution with the Weibull-G generator.

The Sum of Reciprocals of Polygonal Numbers: A Spreadsheet Based Illustration

open access: yesSpreadsheets in Education
This pedagogic note considers the sum of reciprocals of polygonal numbers. Closed form expressions of the sum are currently available for twelve specific cases, from triangles to 26-sided polygons. Several of these expressions are from featured solutions
