Competent Non‐Native Alternative Host Reduces Infection Success in a Generalist Parasite

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
In this study, we experimentally assessed how the addition of a non‐native alternative host affects the infection success of the larval generalist trematode, Diplostomum pseudospathaceum, in fish intermediate hosts. Our results demonstrate that the presence of alternative hosts, especially the non‐native ones, can reduce parasite transmission through ...

Whole System Ecohydrological Change Following Natural Flood Management and a Five‐Year Beaver Reintroduction Trial

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Once‐common beavers have been absent from the British landscape for centuries, but wild beaver populations have returned in recent years as part of reintroduction schemes, including releases into monitored enclosures. In North Yorkshire, such a release of Eurasian beavers took place in 2019.

Relationships of Otolith Dimension with Body Length of European Eel Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758) from Adriatic catchment of Montenegro

open access: yes, 2018
This study examined the relationship between the sagittal otolith morphometric variables (length, height and weight) and body growth of the European eel. Eels that were studied ranged in total length from 11.2 to 79.5 cm.

From Cell Line to Fillet: A Review of Biological and Engineering Strategies in Cultivated Seafood

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 259-277, June 2026.
Bottlenecks of the cultivated seafood industry are shown, and they prevent efficiency of key production stages. These include limited cell line availability, sustainable and cost‐effective media, adaption to suspension culture, sustainable cost‐effective and edible scaffolds, food regulatory approval and acceptance of genetic modified organisms (GMO ...

Evaluating the Air Respiratory Capacity of Awaous (Chonophorus) tajasica (Gobiiformes: Oxudercidae): A Morpho‐Functional Study

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 5, Page 498-507, June 2026.
We demonstrated that Awaous tajasica performs facultative air breathing under experimental conditions of dissolved oxygen limitation, retaining air bubbles in the buccal cavity during gill ventilation. Morpho‐functional evidence indicates the use of atmospheric oxygen as a respiratory support under conditions of low water oxygenation.
