Sequencing, de novo annotation and analysis of the first Anguilla anguilla transcriptome: EeelBase opens new perspectives for the study of the critically endangered european eel

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2010
Background Once highly abundant, the European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.; Anguillidae; Teleostei) is considered to be critically endangered and on the verge of extinction, as the stock has declined by 90-99% since the 1980s.

Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

Standardization of European eel (Anguilla anguilla) sperm motility evaluation by CASA software [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
[EN] The development of powerful computer-assisted sperm analysis software has made kinetic studies of spermatozoa possible. This system has been used and validated for several species, but some technical questions have emerged regarding fish sample ...

2D Co‐Mo‐Hydroxide‐Based Multifunctional Material for the Development of H2‐Based Clean Energy Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
2D α‐Co(OH)2 interleaved with Mo species displays an appealing dual functionality for the production and use of green hydrogen.Mo incorporation greatly benefits the electrochemical behaviour in Oxygen Evolution Reaction for H2 production, while the magnetocaloric response at liquid H2 temperature paves the way for alternative cryogenic refrigerants ...

Strategy of recreational anglers and estimated eel (Anguilla anguilla) catches in a large European catchment basin, the Loire (France) [PDF]

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2008
The European Council Regulation (18 September 2007) for the recovery of eel stocks required European states to report on eel stocks and anthropic mortalities.

Sequence and regulation of European eel prolactin mRNA [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1994
cDNA clones encoding the European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) prolactin were isolated from a pituitary cDNA library constructed in gamma gt10, using a rainbow trout Prl cDNA fragment as a probe. Four different inserts were subcloned into the pGEM 3Z plasmid after PCR amplification.

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

Glass eels and viruses – a lesson learnt from stocking the eastern German Baltic Sea coast

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Accepted Article., 2022
Abstract Concerns about Anguillid herpesvirus 1 (AngHV‐1) in European eels, especially due to stocking measures, is increasingly coming into focus and raises questions regarding disease monitoring and prevention. In the past, stocking of AngHV‐1‐positive eels into waters assumed AngHV‐1‐free has led to a rapid increase of infected eels in the wild. For

A spatial assessment model for European eel (Anguilla anguilla) in a delta, The Netherlands

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2013
Given the poor status of the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) population, good assessments are essential to optimise recovery measures. Quantifying eel stock size is challenging given the fractal nature of the distribution of eels,

Hard times for catadromous fish: the case of the European eel Anguilla anguilla (L. 1758)

open access: yesAdvances in Oceanography and Limnology, 2021
Catadromous fish species are very important organisms for their ecological, economical, and cultural value. For its complex life species catadromous fish result in worldwide decline since the beginning of the 20th century.
