New records of rotifers (Rotifera: Eurotatoria) from Deepor Beel - a Ramsar site of India with an update on its rich rotifer diversity.

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2015
Plankton samples collected from Deepor Beel (a Ramsar site), during July 2011 to June 2013, revealed 155 species of Rotifera, belonging to 35 genera and 20 families.

Rotifer assemblages (Rotifera: Eurotatoria) of the floodplain lakes of Majuli River Island, the Brahmaputra river basin, northeast India

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aquatic Biology, 2014
Our plankton and semi-plankton collections from twelve floodplain lakes (beels) of Majuli River Island, Upper Assam reveal 124 rotifer species (32 genera and 17 families); these merit biodiversity value as ~52.0% and ~30.0% of species, ~68.0 and ~45.0 ...

Phytoplankton and zooplankton diversity in rural wetlands of Anand and Kheda districts, Gujarat India [PDF]

open access: yesThe Holistic Approach to Environment, 2023
Plankton diversity plays an essential role in aquatic wetlands. Phytoplankton and zooplankton communities were assessed in three permanent water bodies: Petli (S1), Deva (S2) and Heranj (S3) of the Anand and Kheda districts.

Groundwater environmental DNA metabarcoding reveals hidden diversity and reflects land‐use and geology

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 13, Page 3497-3512, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Despite being the most important source of liquid freshwater on the planet, groundwater is severely threatened by climate change, agriculture, or industrial mining. It is thus extensively monitored for pollutants and declines in quantity. The organisms living in groundwater, however, are rarely the target of surveillance programmes and little ...

Paired environmental DNA and dive surveys provide distinct but complementary snapshots of marine biodiversity in a temperate fjord

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 597-612, May 2023., 2023
We examined the vertical stratification of eDNA in a fjord ecosystem as well as compared eDNA results with concurrent dive surveys. We found that surface eDNA communities were distinct from midwater and bottom, and dive surveys and eDNA sampling provided unique yet complimentary snapshots of biodiversity in the nearshore environment.

Fine structure of the retrocerebral organ in the rotifer Trichocerca similis (Monogononta)

open access: yesInvertebrate Biology, Volume 142, Issue 1, March 2023., 2023
Abstract The retrocerebral organ (RCO) is a complex glandular system that is widely distributed across species of phylum Rotifera (sensu stricto). This system is hypothesized to secrete mucus that aids in benthic locomotion, adhesion, and/or reproduction.

The composition and heterogeneity of the rich and diverse rotifers (Rotifera: Eurotatoria) of the floodplain lakes (beels) of the Majuli River Island, Assam State (Northeast India) [PDF]

open access: yesOpuscula Zoologica Instituti Zoosystematici et Oecologici Universitatis Budapestinensis, 2021
The tropical and subtropical floodplain lakes are hypothesized as one of the globally interesting rotifer rich ecosystems. Our study indicating the biodiverse Rotifera of ten ‘slightly acidic to circum-neutral, moderately hard-water and de-mineralized ...

White spot syndrome virus host range and impact on transmission

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 1843-1860, September 2022., 2022
Abstract White spot syndrome virus (WSSV), the etiological agent of white spot disease (WSD), is a significant pathogen affecting shrimp farming industry worldwide. White spot syndrome virus is a generalist virus mainly infecting decapod crustaceans. The aims of this review were to: (1) Re‐evaluate and update the status of reported WSSV host and vector

Characterization and biogeographic affinity of megazoobenthos in the Central Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesMarine Ecology, Volume 42, Issue 2, April 2021., 2021
Abstract The Strait of Sicily (SoS) is a key area in the Central Mediterranean Sea characterized by high biodiversity and demersal fisheries productivity. Further, it is traditionally considered the main biogeographic boundary between the Western and Eastern basins of the Mediterranean.
