Euschistus heros RNase silencing: dsRNA stability and effects on RNAi susceptibility
Nuclease (RNase) activity is a major limiting factor that reduces the effectiveness of RNAi-induced gene silencing across many insect species. In Euschistus heros, dsRNA degradation occurs predominantly upon contact with saliva, while midgut fluids exhibit moderate degradative activity and the hemolymph shows minimal or no RNase activity.

The invasive pest Halyomorpha halys causes significant crop losses requiring innovative pest control strategies such as RNA interference (RNAi). However, oral RNAi is largely ineffective in H. halys. This study shows that double‐stranded DNA (dsDNA) stabilizes dsRNA in saliva by inhibiting a highly expressed nuclease.

In this study, we provide a detailed description of the embryonic development of Appasus japonicus, focusing on the formation of its specialized mouthparts. We identify homologies between the maxillary plate and maxillary palp and most parts of the stylet‐like mandibles and maxillae are housed within the labial palp.

Abstract In this study, the morphology and distribution of antennal sensilla of male and female adults of Plautia stali were investigated using scanning electron microscopy. In both sexes, the antennae of P. stali were composed of a scape, two‐segmented pedicels (P1 and P2) and two‐segmented flagellomeres (F1 and F2).
