First detection of Eustrongylides excisus (Nematoda: Dioctophymatidae) in big-scale sand smelt (Atherina boyeri) from the lake Massaciuccoli (Northwest Tuscany, Italy): implications for public health and seafood quality

open access: yesFood Control, 2021
Abstract Eustrongylides spp. are cosmopolitan parasitic nematodes with several freshwater fish species as intermediate or paratenic hosts, rarely reported as zoonotic agents. This work aims to report, for the first time, the occurrence of this parasite in specimens of big scale sand smelt (Atherina boyeri) caught in the lake Massaciuccoli (Northwest ...

Molecular Identification of the Nematode Eustrongylides ignotus in Mandarin Fish, Siniperca chuatsi

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi) is a high‐value economic freshwater fish in China; however, the frequent occurrence of diseases threatens its production. To this end, we explored the impact of a nematode parasite newly found in the abdomen of mandarin fish collected from Pudong, Shanghai, China.

DNA Barcoding of Nematode Parasites Infecting Ompok bimaculatus and Nemacheilus anguilla From Barvi Reservoir, Maharashtra

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
In the present study, the DNA barcoding of the nematode parasite infecting Ompok bimaculatus and Nemacheilus anguilla fish species was carried out in Barvi Reservoir, Maharashtra. To ascertain the taxonomic status of these nematode parasites, an 18S gene marker was used.

First Detection of Eustrongylides excisus in Mosquito Fish (Gambusia holbrooki) from Lake Eğirdir

open access: yesActa Aquatica Turcica
In this study, the presence of Eustrongylides excisus, one of the zoonotic nematodes, was determined for the first time in Gambusia holbrooki from Lake Eğirdir. 70 Gambusia holbrooki samples were examined macroscopically for Eustrongylides excisus infection. The four parasite samples were recorded in 4 fish, one in each fish.

EFFECT OF EUSTRONGYLIDES EXCISUS ON BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF BLOOD SERUM OF COMMON CARP

open access: yes
Most parasitic organisms are opportunistic and can be present in small numbers in a water body or on fish at all times and cause disease only when the fish is stressed. Eustrongylides spp. is considered a zoonotic nematode of freshwater and predatory fish. In the waters of Odesa region, the larvae of the nematode E.
