Activation Functions: Dive into an optimal activation function [PDF]
Activation functions have come up as one of the essential components of neural networks. The choice of adequate activation function can impact the accuracy of these methods. In this study, we experiment for finding an optimal activation function by defining it as a weighted sum of existing activation functions and then further optimizing these weights ...

The random first-order transition theory of active glass in the high-activity regime [PDF]
Dense active matter, in the fluid or amorphous-solid form, has generated intense interest as a model for the dynamics inside living cells and multicellular systems. An extension of the random first-order transition theory (RFOT) to include activity was developed, whereby the activity of the individual particles was added to the free energy of the ...

Activity gradients in two- and three-dimensional active nematics [PDF]
We numerically investigate how spatial variations of extensile or contractile active stress affect bulk active nematic systems in two and three dimensions. In the absence of defects, activity gradients drive flows which re-orient the nematic director field and thus act as an effective anchoring force.

Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.
