Skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis and kawakawa Euthynnus affinis are economically important tuna species targeted by artisanal fishers in the western Indian Ocean. Both species are currently considered sustainably fished despite substantial catches. Even so, ongoing management is crucial to maintain healthy populations.
