The impact of alignment and scaling on biological inferences from landmark‐free morphometrics
Journal of Anatomy, EarlyView.Landmark‐free morphometrics promises advancements in shape quantification for biology, but widespread adoption is hampered by concerns over reproducibility. We compare 3D mesh alignment and scaling protocols on a prominent landmark‐free approach, Deterministic Atlas Analysis, finding inconsistencies in centroid size distribution and variance structure.
