Atomistic misconception of current model for condensed matter evaporation and new formulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Even though the phenomenon of evaporation is omnipresent and has immense scientific and technological importance, the research effort to unveil its fundamentals remains inadequately low. As one particular consequence, the textbooks and educational courses are lacking detailed explanation of evaporation and its effects.

Laser Additive Manufacturing of Oxide‐Dispersion‐Strengthened Steels: A Simulation‐Based Comparison Between Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the size and distribution of dispersoids is essential for optimizing the performance of oxide‐dispersion‐strengthened steels. This study focuses on nanoparticle dispersion and agglomeration during laser additive manufacturing of Fe20Cr alloy reinforced with ZrO 2 nanoparticles. Utilizing multiphysics phase‐field simulations and nanoparticle

Influence of Temperature on Scratch and Wear Properties of Technical Thermoplastics: Implications for Material Selection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The share of technical thermoplastics is expected to grow further in the e‐mobility segment. In this study, a detailed temperature‐based tribological characterization of technical thermoplastics is performed. The tribological properties are discussed in terms of the dynamic mechanical properties of polymers at different ambient temperatures. A proof of

Effect of Thermomechanical Processing on the Impact Deformation of Additively Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Previous studies on additive manufacturing primarily focus on the mechanical properties of as‐printed components. In the present work, researchers explore the potential of employing novel thermomechanical postprocessing techniques to improve the microstructure after printing.

Evaluation of three energy balance-based evaporation models for estimating monthly evaporation for five lakes using derived heat storage changes from a hysteresis model

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2017
The heat storage changes ( Q _t ) can be a significant component of the energy balance in lakes, and it is important to account for Q _t for reasonable estimation of evaporation at monthly and finer timescales if the energy balance-based evaporation ...

A semi-analytical model of disk evaporation by thermal conduction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
The conditions for disk evaporation by electron thermal conduction are examined, using a simplified semi--analytical 1-D model. The model is based on the mechanism proposed by Meyer & Meyer-Hofmeister (1994) in which an advection dominated accretion flow evaporates the top layers from the underlying disk by thermal conduction.

Femtosecond Single‐ and Double‐Pulse Fabrication of Periodic Nanostructures on Stainless Steel for Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic submicron features are fabricated on 304 stainless steel using single and double femtosecond laser pulses. By adjusting polarization, fluence, and inter‐pulse delay, 1D and 2D nanostructures are formed. Enhanced hydrophobicity and dense surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy hotspots enable analyte detection down to 10−10 M with good ...

Scalable Fabrication of Height‐Variable Microstructures with a Revised Wetting Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Height‐variable microstructures are fabricated using a scalable CO2 laser machining approach, enabling precise control of wettability through structural gradients. Classical wetting models fail to capture height‐induced effects, necessitating a revised theoretical framework.
