Initial results from the boreal ecosystem-atmosphere experiment, BOREAS
BOREAS is a four-year, regional-scale experiment to study the forested continental interior of Canada. It aims at improving our understanding of the interaction between the earths' climate system and the boreal forests at short and intermediate time ...

Pressure-Driven Evaporative Cooling in Atom Guides [PDF]
We study steady-state evaporation in an atom guide via Monte Carlo simulations. The evaporation surface follows a specific profile as a function of longitudinal guide location. We demonstrate that the choice of evaporation profile significantly impacts the performance of the evaporation.

Atomic Scale Interfacial Transport at an Extended Evaporating Meniscus [PDF]
Recent developments in fabrication techniques enabled the production of nano- and angstrom-scale conduits. While scientists are able to conduct experimental studies to demonstrate extreme evaporation rates from these capillaries, theoretical modeling of evaporation from a few nanometers or sub-nanometer meniscus interfaces, where adsorbed film ...

Applying Droplets and Films in Evaporative Lithography [PDF]
This review covers experimental results of evaporative lithography and analyzes existing mathematical models of this method. Evaporating droplets and films are used in different fields, such as cooling of heated surfaces of electronic devices, diagnostics in health care, creation of transparent conductive coatings on flexible substrates, and surface ...

Critical assessment of water enthalpy characterization through dark environment evaporation [PDF]
Comparative evaporation rate testing in the absence of solar irradiation is a widely adopted method for establishing and characterizing a reduced vaporization enthalpy of water within an interfacial solar evaporator. However, the assumption of equal energy input between cases is not generally valid, and renders this characterization method misleading ...

Non-selective evaporation mechanism of binary aerosol generating agent on porous atomizer and its experimental verification [PDF]
To explain the similarity between e-cigarette aerosol and e-liquid composition despite differing component boiling points, a non-selective evaporation mechanism for binary aerosol generating agents was investigated using phase diagrams and capillary evaporation theory.

Relative Evaporation Probabilities of 3He and 4He from the Surface of Superfluid 4He [PDF]
We report a preliminary experiment which demonstrates that 3He atoms in Andreev states are evaporated by high-energy (E/k_B ~ 10.2 K) phonons in a quantum evaporation process similar to that which occurs in pure 4He. Under conditions of low 3He coverage, high-energy phonons appear to evaporate 3He and 4He atoms with equal probability.
