Evaporating firewalls [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2014
In this note, we begin by reviewing an argument (independent from 1304.6483) that the large AdS black holes dual to typical high-energy pure states of a single holographic CFT must have some structure at the horizon (i.e. a firewall/fuzzball). By weakly coupling the CFT to an auxiliary system, such a black hole can be made to evaporate. In a case where

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A semi-analytical model of disk evaporation by thermal conduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The conditions for disk evaporation by electron thermal conduction are examined, using a simplified semi--analytical 1-D model. The model is based on the mechanism proposed by Meyer & Meyer-Hofmeister (1994) in which an advection dominated accretion flow

The Effect of Salinity on Water Evaporation and the Associated Determinants

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao, 2022
【Objective】 Water evaporation is influenced by many factors, besides meteorological factors, salinity also has an important effect on it. The aim of this paper is to study its impact on water evaporation in coastal saline-alkali land.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1513-1534, June 2026.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Evaporative cooling: effective latent heat of evaporation in relation to evaporation distance from the skin

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physiology, 2013
Calculation of evaporative heat loss is essential to heat balance calculations. Despite recognition that the value for latent heat of evaporation, used in these calculations, may not always reflect the real cooling benefit to the body, only limited quantitative data on this is available, which has found little use in recent literature.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Bacterial Extracellular Polymeric Substances Amplify Water Content Variability at the Pore Scale

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2018
The function of microbial communities in soil is inextricably linked with the complex physical, chemical, and biological structure of the soil itself.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.
