Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Boundaries of photosynthesis: adaptations of carbon fixation in extreme environments
Photosynthesis faces challenges from environmental extremes of temperature, pH, and salinity, limiting gas diffusion, modifying membrane fluidity, and destabilizing photochemical and biochemical reactions. Photosynthetic organisms have evolved unique adaptations overcoming these stresses and maintaining their photosynthetic activity.

Three‐Moment Representation of Rain in a Bulk Microphysics Model
A bulk three‐moment representation for rain microphysics is developed and implemented in the Predicted Particle Properties (P3) microphysics scheme. In addition, a new parameterization for rain self‐collection and collisional breakup (RSCB) is presented ...

Modeling of protein and salt redistribution during drying of a solution from a square cell
Background: Drying of biological fluids and saline biopolymer solutions is an actively researched topic, since the textures of the films remaining on the substrate after evaporation carry information about the state of the organism or biopolymer. Earlier,

Interplay of capillary and Marangoni flows in micropillar evaporation [PDF]
The evaporation from a micropillar evaporator is a problem governed by various interfacial phenomena such as the capillarity-induced liquid flow, thin-film evaporation intensifying near the contact lines, and thermocapillarity-induced Marangoni flow.

In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Evolution of Low-Mass X-ray Binaries: the Effect of Donor Evaporation [PDF]
Millisecond pulsars (MSPs) are thought to originate from low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). The discovery of eclipsing radio MSPs including redbacks and black widows indicates that evaporation of the donor star by the MSP's irradiation takes place during the LMXB evolution.

Evaporating microfluidic droplets: A tool to study pathogen viability in bioaerosols [PDF]
Pathogens in droplets on fomites and aerosols go through extreme physiochemical conditions, such as confinement and osmotic stress, due to evaporation. Still, these droplets are the predominant transmission routes of many contagious diseases. The biggest challenge for studying the survival mechanisms of pathogens in extreme conditions is closely ...
