A simple method to determine evaporation duct height in the sea surface boundary layer

Radio Science, 1992
A formulation to determine the evaporation duct height in the sea surface boundary layer is presented. This formulation is based upon the theory of similarity of Monin Obukhov by using analytical solutions currently used in the field of numerical weather prediction.

On analyzing space-time distribution of evaporation duct height over the global ocean

Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2016
The statistical features of the evaporation duct over the global ocean were comprehensively investigated with reanalysis data sets from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. These data sets have time and spatial resolutions of 1 h and 0.313°×0.312°, respectively.

Retrieve the evaporation duct height by least-squares support vector machine algorithm

Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, 2009
The detection and tracking of naval targets, including low Radar Cross Section (RCS) objects like inflatable boats or sea skimming missiles requires a thorough knowledge of the propagation properties of the maritime boundary layer. Models are in existence, which allow a prediction of the propagation factor using the parabolic equation algorithm.

X-band beacon-receiver array evaporation duct height estimation

2015 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2015
Radiowave propagation in the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) remains a subject of research interest given the potential utility of the ducting propagation mechanism. Ducting propagation is highly dependent on atmospheric conditions; experiments that combine propagation measurements with detailed atmospheric characterization can offer ...

The Surface Evaporative Duct Height Product: An Evaluation

1987
Abstract : The existence of a surface evaporative duct has many serious operational implications. One of the most serious and obvious implications is that the extended range of the radar will allow distant hostile units to detect the radar(and to be detected by the radar).

A Short-term Evaporation Duct Height Prediction Method Using EMD and Parameter Optimized SVR

2020 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2020
Evaporation duct often appears in the near ground layer close to the sea surface, and it is an important factor affecting the performance of shore based, ship borne or low altitude airborne radar and communication systems. Mastering the information of evaporation duct in advance can effectively avoid the electromagnetic wave loss caused by the ...

A sensitivity study of weather data inaccuracies on evaporation duct height algorithms

Radio Science, 1991
The sensitivity of five evaporation duct height algorithms to errors in shipboard meteorological data is examined, and the algorithms are intercompared. The data set used was generated parametrically so a large variation of environmental conditions could be considered.

PCR Model: Optimization of Evaporation Duct Height Prediction Based on Principal Component Regression

2020 IEEE 5th International Conference on Signal and Image Processing (ICSIP), 2020
Evaporation duct is an abnormal refraction atmospheric structure frequently appearing on the sea surface. Accurately obtaining the evaporation duct height (EDH) has significant effects on the effective application of electromagnetic system equipment. Aiming at the problems of large error and strong data dependence of current evaporation duct prediction

A preliminary study on the application of remotely sensed SST in locating evaporation duct height

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
Refractivity happens due to stratification in the lower boundary layer over oceans due to variability of moisture, temperature, wind and sea surface temperature which collectively may lead to generate evaporation duct. The evaporation duct has a significant impact on the spread of electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere over oceans both from the ...

A method of estimating the distribution of evaporation duct height from statistical meteorological parameters

2019 International Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Symposium - China (ACES), 2019
To estimate the distribution of the evaporation duct height in some marine areas whose original meteorological data is not open, a calculation method from statistical meteorological parameters is presented. 10000 sets of data are randomly generated from the mean and variance of meteorological parameters firstly, then the data whose Air-Sea temperature ...
