Statistical Analysis of Hybrid Atmospheric Ducts over the Northern South China Sea and Their Influence on Over-the-Horizon Electromagnetic Wave Propagation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Atmospheric ducts are special super-refractive atmospheric structures that can cause over-the-horizon propagation of electromagnetic waves. Different types of atmospheric ducts have different influences on electromagnetic wave propagation.

Experimental Analysis of Atmospheric Ducts and Navigation Radar Over-the-Horizon Detection

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Since the height of sea detection radar antenna and ship targets is relatively low, it is generally believed that its over-the-horizon detection is mainly caused by the evaporation duct at sea.

Numerical Simulation of Multi-Nozzle Droplet Evaporation Characteristics for Desulfurization Wastewater

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Spraying flue gas desulfurization wastewater into flue ducts is an emerging technology that is receiving extensive attention in thermal power plants. In order to study the evaporative performance of wastewater-atomizing droplets under variable working ...

Transient Marangoni convection in hanging evaporating drops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
. A combined experimental and numerical analysis has been carried out to study Marangoni effects during the evaporation of droplets. The experiments are performed with pendant drops of silicone oils (with different viscosities) and hydrocarbons.

Evaporation duct assessment from meteorological buoys [PDF]

open access: yesRadio Science, 2002
The evaporation duct over the sea is usually assessed using bulk meteorological measurements. This paper investigates the utility of meteorological buoys as a source for these bulk measurements and compares evaporation duct assessments using two buoys in southern California waters separated by 128 km.

Application of the PJ and NPS evaporation duct models over the South China Sea (SCS) in winter.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The detection of duct height has a significant effect on marine radar or wireless apparatus applications. The paper presents two models to verify the adaptation of evaporation duct models in the SCS in winter. A meteorological gradient instrument used to

Fading Characteristics in Evaporation Duct: Fade Margin for a Wireless Link in the South China Sea

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Evaporation ducts (ED), which are caused by a rapid decrease in the refractive index of the lower atmosphere, are known to trap radio waves between the evaporation duct layer and the sea surface. Although signal propagation and refractivity estimation in

Regional Spatiotemporal Statistical Database of Evaporation Ducts Over the South China Sea For Future Long-Range Radio Application

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2022
To fully grasp the characteristics and provide a basis for establishing an evaporation duct communication system for the South China Sea (SCS), we constructed a regional statistical database based on remote sensing meteorological parameters and a ...

Frequency diversity effects of evaporation duct propagation [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1990
A comparison of 3, 9.6, and 18-GHz low-altitude over-the-horizon propagation (as influenced by the evaporation duct) is presented. Theoretical and experimental results are given for a 35-km over-water path, where the transmitters were located about 5 m above mean sea level and the receivers were located either 4-5 m or 18-19 m above sea level.
