Composition and diversity of woody plant species in agro-ecosystems of Uluguru Mountains, Tanzania

open access: yesForest Science and Technology
Woody plant species are important components of agro-ecosystems that determine their productivity and biodiversity conservation in tropical mountain landscapes.

Assessing a macroalgal foundation species: community variation with shifting algal assemblages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2018Foundation species provide critical food and habitat to their associated communities. Consequently, they are disproportionately important in shaping community structure, promoting greater biodiversity and

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Estrutura do fitoplâncton, em curto período de tempo, em um braço do reservatório de Rosana (ribeirão do Corvo, Paraná, Brasil) = Short-term changes in phytoplankton structure in an arm of the Rosana reservoir, Paraná-São Paulo States, Brazil

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2008

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Comparison of measures of crowding, group size, and diversity

open access: yesEcosphere, 2017
In ecology, diversity is often measured as the mean rarity of species in a community. In behavioral sciences and parasitology, mean crowding is the size of the group to which a typical individual belongs.

Small Extended Formulations for Cyclic Polytopes

open access: yes, 2015
We provide an extended formulation of size O(log n)^{\lfloor d/2 \rfloor} for the cyclic polytope with dimension d and n vertices (i,i^2,\ldots,i^d), i in [n]. First, we find an extended formulation of size log(n) for d= 2. Then, we use this as base case

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

On the diversity‐based measures of equalness and evenness

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
While the notion of evenness is generally undisputed, its opposite, unevenness, is vague. Conventionally, evenness is understood to decrease, and thus unevenness to increase, as the effective number of types of positive frequency tends towards one while ...
