Myogenic artifacts masquerade as neuroplasticity in the auditory frequency-following response

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
The frequency-following response (FFR) is an evoked potential that provides a neural index of complex sound encoding in the brain. FFRs have been widely used to characterize speech and music processing, experience-dependent neuroplasticity (e.g ...

It's Amazing – But Terrifying!: Unveiling the Combined Effect of Emotional and Cognitive Trust on Organizational Member' Behaviours, AI Performance, and Adoption

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract We conducted a qualitative, real‐life study where we tracked the introduction, implementation, and use of a new AI technology in a company. We identified four distinct trust configurations among organizational members: full trust (high cognitive/high emotional), full distrust (low cognitive/low emotional), uncomfortable trust (high cognitive ...

Know Your Lanes: Unpacking Theoretical Plurality Across Studies of Professions

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract Professions continue to be central to understanding organizing in the 21st century. The literature on professions is segmented into theoretical conversations that offer different conceptualizations of professions and theoretical concerns. Through an analysis of the literature, we unpack four lanes – teleological, institutional, ecological, and

Sleep Slow Wave‐Bistability and the Connection Between the Sleeping Brain and the Environment—Neurobiological Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Bistability is an inherent working mode of NREM sleep. Those bistable patterns ‐ sleep slow waves, K‐complexes, and the cyclic alternating pattern (on a longer, several seconds' time‐scale) ‐ have a double function; they protect sleep and provide an interface between the brain and the environment for information‐transfer during sleep.

Effective When Distinctive: The Role of Phonetic Similarity in Nested Dependency Learning Across Preschool Years

open access: yesLanguage Learning, EarlyView.
Abstract Parallel tracking of distant relations between speech elements, so‐called nonadjacent dependencies (NADs), is crucial in language development but computationally demanding and acquired only in late preschool years. As processing of single NADs is facilitated when dependent elements are perceptually similar, we investigated how phonetic ...

Language comprehension and the rhythm of perception

open access: yesMind &Language, EarlyView.
It is widely agreed that language understanding has a distinctive phenomenology, as illustrated by phenomenal contrast cases. Yet it remains unclear how to account for the perceptual phenomenology of language experience. I advance a rhythmic account, which explains this phenomenology in terms of changes in the rhythm of sensory capacities in both ...
