Evolution is Viral: The Theory of Collective Discontinuous Evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Herein will be discussed the problems associated with the origin of species according to Darwinist processes of individual mutations. We will argue that individual mutations cannot be the driving force of species origination.

Classical Evolution without Evolution

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
The well-known argument of Page and Wootters demonstrates how to “derive" the usual quantum dynamics of a subsystem in a global state which is an eigenstate of the total Hamiltonian. I show how the same argument can be made in classical physics by using a formalism that closely resembles the quantum one.

Sampling environmental DNA from trees and soil to detect cryptic arboreal mammals

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches to monitoring biodiversity in terrestrial environments have largely focused on sampling water bodies, potentially limiting the geographic and taxonomic scope of eDNA investigations.

Analysing co-evolution among artificial 3D creatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper is concerned with the analysis of coevolutionary dynamics among 3D artificial creatures, similar to those introduced by Sims (1). Coevolution is subject to complex dynamics which are notoriously difficult to analyse.

Rapid generation of ecologically relevant behavioral novelty in experimental cichlid hybrids

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
The East African cichlid radiations are characterized by repeated and rapid diversification into many distinct species with different ecological specializations and by a history of hybridization events between nonsister species.

Set of evolution operators of an evolution algebra [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
An automorphism defined on an evolution algebra can provide both a finite number and an infinite number of evolution operators on it. This question is dealt with in the paper, as well as others more related to the evolution operators of evolution algebras. After defining the concept of the set of evolution operators of an evolution algebra, differences

Evolution of networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We review the recent fast progress in statistical physics of evolving networks. Interest has focused mainly on the structural properties of random complex networks in communications, biology, social sciences and economics.

Markovian semigroup from non-Markovian evolutions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 93, 042120 (2016), 2016
It is shown that a convex combination of two non-Markovian evolutions may lead to Markovian semigroup. This shows that convex combination of quantum evolutions displaying nontrivial memory effects may result in a perfectly memoryless evolution.

Divergent expression of aristaless1 and aristaless2 during embryonic appendage and pupal wing development in butterflies

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2023
Background Gene duplication events are critical for the evolution of new gene functions. Aristaless is a major regulator of distinct developmental processes. It is most known for its role during appendage development across animals.

The evolution of concerted evolution [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 1998
Concerted evolution is a consequence of processes that convert copies of a gene in a multigene family into the same copy. Here we ask whether this homogenization may be adaptive.
