Trust Region Evolution Strategies
Evolution Strategies (ES), a class of black-box optimization algorithms, has recently been demonstrated to be a viable alternative to popular MDP-based RL techniques such as Qlearning and Policy Gradients. ES achieves fairly good performance on challenging reinforcement learning problems and is easier to scale in a distributed setting.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Applying Evolution Strategies for Chest Radiographs Segmentation [PDF]
WSegmentation is one of the key areas in computer vision. Advanced techniques, such as active contour models and active shape models suffer from many drawbacks. An improvement of the two approaches, based in evolution strategies, is presented.

The diplomat's dilemma: Maximal power for minimal effort in social networks
Closeness is a global measure of centrality in networks, and a proxy for how influential actors are in social networks. In most network models, and many empirical networks, closeness is strongly correlated with degree.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Reaction-Diffusion Processes on Interconnected Scale-Free Networks
We study the two particle annihilation reaction $A+B\rightarrow \emptyset$ on interconnected scale free networks, using different interconnecting strategies. We explore how the mixing of particles and the process evolution are influenced by the number of

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
