Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Evolutionary Dynamics of Biological Games [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2004
Darwinian dynamics based on mutation and selection form the core of mathematical models for adaptation and coevolution of biological populations. The evolutionary outcome is often not a fitness-maximizing equilibrium but can include oscillations and chaos.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Pure Saddle Points and Symmetric Relative Payoff Games [PDF]

open access: yes
It is well known that the rock-paper-scissors game has no pure saddle point. We show that this holds more generally: A symmetric two-player zero-sum game has a pure saddle point if and only if it is not a generalized rock-paper-scissors game.

Eco-evolutionary games for harvesting self-renewing common resource: effect of growing harvester population

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Complexity, 2023
The tragedy of the commons (TOCs) is a ubiquitous social dilemma witnessed in interactions between a population of living entities and shared resources available to them: the individuals in the population tend to selfishly overexploit a common resource ...

Evolutionary Game Theory: A Renaissance [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2017
Economic agents are not always rational or farsighted and can make decisions according to simple behavioral rules that vary according to situation and can be studied using the tools of evolutionary game theory. Furthermore, such behavioral rules are themselves subject to evolutionary forces. Paying particular attention to the work of young researchers,

PHASE TRANSITION IN EVOLUTIONARY GAMES [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 1999
The evolution of cooperative behavior is studied in the deterministic version of the Prisoners' Dilemma on a two-dimensional lattice. The payoff parameter is set at the critical region 1.8<b<2.0, where clusters of cooperators are formed in all spatial sizes.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Evolutionary games and computer simulations. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1993
The Prisoner's Dilemma has long been considered the paradigm for studying the emergence of cooperation among selfish individuals. Because of its importance, it has been studied through computer experiments as well as in the laboratory and by analytical means. However, there are important differences between the way a system composed of many interacting
