Audio Signal Discrimination Using Evolutionary Spectrum
International Journal of Computers and Applications, 2009In this paper, a joint-distribution algorithm, mainly, the evolutionary spectrum (ES) for audio signal discrimination is proposed and discussed. The purpose of audio signal discrimination is to build two different libraries: speech library and music library, from a stream of sounds.

The transitory evolutionary spectrum
Proceedings of ICASSP '94. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2002Propose a new definition for the time-dependent spectrum of a non-stationary process. The authors show that this spectrum can be considered as the dual of Priestley's (1981) evolutionary spectrum. They demonstrate how this dual spectrum successfully characterizes signals whose components are highly localized in time. They give an estimator of this dual

The generalized evolutionary spectrum
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1996Evolutionary spectral theory defines a decomposition of signal energy jointly over time and frequency by assuming that processes are composed of sinusoidal components with time-dependent amplitudes. We expand this theory by allowing time variations in the frequency of the sinusoidal components. Examples are presented illustrating the advantages of this

Variable frequency evolutionary spectrum
1995 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002Evolutionary spectral theory provides a means for defining a decomposition of signal energy jointly over time and frequency for processes which exhibit an oscillatory behavior. The oscillatory model of behavior effectively assumes that a process is composed sinusoidal components with slowly-varying time-dependent amplitudes.

Evolutionary radiation and the spectrum of consciousness
Consciousness and Cognition, 2009Evolution is littered with polyphyletic parallelism: many roads lead to functional Romes. We propose consciousness embodies one such example, and represent it here with an equivalence class structure that factors the broad realm of necessary conditions information theoretic realizations of Baars' global workspace model.

Relating the bilinear distributions and the evolutionary spectrum
IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 1993The authors present the theoretical relationship connecting the short time Fourier transform (STFT), the class of bilinear distributions (BDs) and the evolutionary periodogram to the Wold-Cramer evolutionary spectrum. They show that the STFT and the BD can be viewed as estimators of the evolutionary spectrum, thereby allowing comparison of the various ...

Evolutionary spectrum estimation by positivity constrained deconvolution
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1999We present a deconvolution technique to obtain the evolutionary spectrum (ES) of nonstationary signals by deconvolving the blurring effects of the time-frequency distribution (TFD) kernel from bilinear TFDs. The resulting spectrum is non-negative and has desirable properties such as higher resolution and higher concentration in time frequency.

Location-oriented evolutionary games for spectrum sharing
2014 IEEE Global Communications Conference, 2014Spectrum sharing between primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs) can be realized using economic approaches. In this paper, we propose a method for multiple PUs to share with multiple SUs different idle channels in overlapped licensed areas. Due to the fluctuations of supply and demand in different areas, the SUs are grouped according to their ...

Evolutionary conservation and mutational spectrum of BMPR2 gene
Gene, 2006A variety of mutations in the bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 2 (BMPR2) have been identified in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. In this study, using our BMPR2 mutation database and BMPR-II protein sequences from eight distantly related species, we defined the relationship among evolutionary conservation, mutation frequency and ...

A multidimensional approach to evolutionary spectrum estimation
Proceedings of the 32nd Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003Smoothing of the Wigner distribution introduces two-dimensional sequences which bring the theory of two-dimensional filter analysis and design to the one-dimensional time-varying spectrum estimation. In this study, the region of support of the two-dimensional filters associated with the commonly used periodogram, averaged periodograms, and Wigner ...
