Ex situ conservation in botanical gardens – challenges and scientific potential preserving plant biodiversity

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2021
In the Anthropocene, the world’s plant diversity is threatened with extinction and the erosion of the genetic diversity of natural populations. According to the State of the World’s Plants and Fungi 2020 of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, two out of five

Gut microbiota–derived short‐chain fatty acids regulate group 3 innate lymphoid cells in HCC

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Type 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) are essential for host defense against infection and tissue homeostasis. However, their role in the development of HCC has not been adequately confirmed. In this study, we investigated the immunomodulatory role of short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs) derived from intestinal microbiota in ILC3

Integrative evaluation of traits and metabolomics in germplasm resources of the high-calcium crop Primulina eburnea

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Germplasm evaluation is the first step in the utilization and domestication of wild plant resources. Despite the increasing recognition of Primulina eburnea as a valuable plant-based resource for industrial calcium supplement production, systematic ...

Genome‐Wide CRISPR Screen Identifies a microRNA Orchestrating Pleiotropic Resistance to Targeted Therapy and T Cell Immunity in Melanoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A genome‐wide microRNA CRISPR screen identifies miR‐18a as a master regulator of cross‐resistance in melanoma. Loss of miR‐18a activates the AJUBA–YAP/Hippo axis to confer BRAFi resistance and enhances THBS1–CD47 interaction to impair CD8+ T cell immunity. hnRNP A1 is identified as an upstream regulator of miR‐18a processing.

ALK1 controls hepatic vessel formation, angiodiversity, and angiocrine functions in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia of the liver

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Hepatic endothelial Alk1 signaling protects from development of vascular malformations while maintaining organ‐specific endothelial differentiation and angiocrine portmanteau of the names Wingless and Int‐1 signaling. Abstract Background and Aims In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), severe liver vascular malformations are associated with ...

The Diversity and Growth-Promoting Potential of the Endophytic Fungi of Neuwiedia singapureana (Orchidaceae) in China

open access: yesDiversity
Neuwiedia singapureana is a rare and endangered plant of the Apostasioideae subfamily. The Apostasioideae subfamily has a unique evolutionary status, as it is considered to be the most primitive group forming the base of the Orchidaceae evolutionary tree.

A Keratinocyte‐Mast Cell NF‐κB2/CXCL2/IL‐6 Amplification Loop Enhances Cutaneous Antifungal Defense Against C. albicans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mast cells (MCs), key innate immune sentinels at the host–environment interface, serve as primary responders to invading pathogens. However, their specific contribution to host defense against cutaneous Candida albicans (C. albicans) infection and their synergy with other immune and non‐immune cells remain poorly understood. Here, we show that

UCHL3 Regulates Subgenomic Flaviviral RNA Condensates to Promote Virus Propagation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flavivirus subgenomic RNAs (sfRNAs) antagonise antiviral defences, yet how sfRNAs are organized and maintained in cells remains poorly understood. Here we identify ubiquitin C‐terminal hydrolase L3 (UCHL3) as a post‐translational regulator of flavivirus sfRNA stability and function.
