Metric inequalities for polygons

open access: yesJournal of Computational Geometry, 2013
Let A1,A2,…,An be the vertices of a polygon with unit perimeter, that is Σi |Ai Ai+1|=1. We derive various tight estimates on the minimum and maximum values of the sum of pairwise distances, and respectively sum of pairwise squared distances among its ...

Exact inference in diagnosing value-at-risk estimates: A Monte Carlo device [PDF]

open access: yes
In this note a Monte Carlo approach is suggested to determine critical values for diagnostic tests of Value-at-Risk models that rely on binary random variables. Monte Carlo testing offers exact significance levels in finite samples.

The exact distribution of exogenous variable coefficient estimators [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Econometrics, 1984
This paper derives the exact probability density function of the instrumental variable estimator of the exogenous variable coefficient vector in a structural equation containing \(n+1\) endogenous variables and N degrees of overidentification. The derivations make use of an operator calculus which simplifies the algebra of invariant polynomials with ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Bayesian inference on reliability parameter with non-identical-component strengths for Rayleigh distribution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mahani Mathematical Research
In this paper, we delve into Bayesian inference related to multi-component stress-strength parameters, focusing on non-identical component strengths within a two-parameter Rayleigh distribution under the progressive first failure censoring scheme.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Approximation of functions from generalized Nikol’skii– Besov classes by entire functions in Lebesgue spaces(in Ukrainian) [PDF]

open access: yesМатематичні Студії, 2013
Exact-order estimates for the approximations of functions ofclasses $S^{Omega}_{p,{heta}}B(mathbb{R}^d)$ by entirefunctions with the spectrum of a special form in the space$L_q(mathbb{R}^d)$ for some relations between the parameters$p$ and $q$, are ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
