Global and regional brain metabolic scaling and its functional consequences [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Biology 5:18 (2007), 2007
Background: Information processing in the brain requires large amounts of metabolic energy, the spatial distribution of which is highly heterogeneous reflecting complex activity patterns in the mammalian brain. Results: Here, it is found based on empirical data that, despite this heterogeneity, the volume-specific cerebral glucose metabolic rate of ...

Oxygen consumption and swimming behavior of juvenile Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii during stepped velocity tests

open access: yesAquatic Biology, 2016
Oxygen consumption rate (MO2) and critical swimming speed (Ucrit) of juvenile Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii were measured at 24°C using a step-wise velocity test in a flume-type respirometer. Swimming behavior was video-recorded before and after the

Cu‐Based MOF/TiO2 Composite Nanomaterials for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation and the Role of Copper

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
HKUST‐1/TiO2 composite materials show a very high photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate which increases as a function of the irradiation time until reaching a plateau and even surpasses the performance of the 1%Pt/TiO2 material after three photocatalytic cycles.

Duesenberry's Theory of Consumption: Habit, Learning, and Ratcheting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
This paper investigates the consumption and risk taking decision of an economic agent with partial irreversibility of consumption decision by formalizing the theory proposed by Duesenberry (1949). The optimal policies exhibit a type of the (s, S) policy: there are two wealth thresholds within which consumption stays constant.
