The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

The private ECU’s potential impact on global and European exchange rate stability

open access: yesPSL Quarterly Review, 2013
This article examines the potential advantages and disadvantages of the creation of well-developed European Currency Unit (ECU) deposit and credit markets within the EEC. The major potential disadvantages are the higher speed of ECU creation and of intra-

Real exchange rates and inflation in exchange-rate-based stabilizations: an empirical examination [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Development Economics, 1996
Considerable research has focused on explaining why currencies appreciate in real terms after the nominal exchange rate is stabilized, but this research generally has taken a theoretical approach, and rarely has tested its hypotheses empirically. In this paper I estimate a simple error-correction model for Mexico, based on the Salter-Swan framework, in

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

The contribution of the ECU to exchange-rate stability. A comment

open access: yesPSL Quarterly Review, 2013
The article is a brief note criticising some essential elements of Jager and De Jong’s The private ECU’s potential impact on Global and European exchange-rate stability (1988).

Export Promotion through Exchange Rate Changes: Exchange Rate Depreciation or Stabilization?

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, 2006
Exchange rate movements affect exports in two ways—rate depreciation and rate variability (risk). A depreciation raises exports, but the associated exchange rate risk could offset that positive effect. The present paper investigates the net effect for eight Asian countries using a dynamic conditional correlation bivariate GARCH‐M model that ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Exchange Rate Regimes and Financial Sector Stability in Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies
Purpose: This paper examined the role of exchange rate regimes in the stability of the financial sector in Nigeria, on the context of a long standing exchange rate volatility and the frequency of the exposure of the banking sector in an oil-intensive ...
